Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) is a state-owned university located in Agbani, Enugu State, Nigeria. Established in 1980 as the first state university in Nigeria and the first state-owned university of technology, ESUT is one of the most respected public universities in South-East Nigeria. The institution is widely known for strong programmes in Engineering, Medicine, Law, Applied Sciences, Management, and Technology-oriented education. ESUT offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, JUPEB, pre-degree, sandwich, and distance learning programmes.
History of the Institution
ESUT was originally established on 30 July 1980 as Anambra State University of Science and Technology (ASUTECH). It was created as a multi-campus institution and quickly became a landmark university focused on science and technological advancement.
Following the creation of Enugu State in 1991, the institution became Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). Former campuses in Awka and Nnewi later evolved into what became Nnamdi Azikiwe University, while the Enugu campus continued as ESUT.
In 2006, the university moved to its permanent campus at Agbani in Nkanu West Local Government Area.
