Akwa Ibom State University popularly known as AKSU  is a state-owned university located in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, with major campuses at Ikot Akpaden (Mkpat Enin LGA) and Obio Akpa (Oruk Anam LGA). Established in 2009, the university was created by the Akwa Ibom State Government to expand access to quality higher education and drive research, innovation, and manpower development.

History of the Institution

Akwa Ibom State University was established in 2009 by the Akwa Ibom State Government as a strategic institution to provide world-class education and produce graduates equipped for leadership and entrepreneurship.

Since inception, AKSU has expanded rapidly in staff strength, student population, programmes, and infrastructure. The university attracted experienced academics, including professors and scholars trained in British, Canadian, and American universities.

AKSU 2026/2027 MBBS Admission and Screening

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has commenced online applications for admission into its full-time Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) programme for the 2026/2027 academic session. Interested candidates must have selected AKSU as their first-choice institution in the 2026 UTME and obtained a minimum score of 290 to qualify for the screening exercise.

Online registration will open on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, and close on Wednesday, 28 October 2026. Candidates are advised to complete their applications within the stipulated period, as those who miss the deadline will not be considered for admission into the programme.

Applicants must prepare scanned copies of their 2026 UTME result slip, birth certificate, certificate of origin and AKSU Post-UTME registration confirmation slip. To register, visit the official AKSU application portal, click START NOW, select Enrol and then PUTME. Enter your JAMB registration number and verify your details before proceeding to payment.

The screening registration fee is ₦2,000, excluding bank charges, payable by debit card or bank transfer. Candidates must upload the required documents in JPG format, with each file between 120KB and 150KB, review their information and click Finish to generate the registration confirmation slip. AKSU 2026/2027 Undergraduate Supplementary Admission

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has commenced applications for its 2026/2027 undergraduate supplementary Post-UTME admission exercise. AKSU 2026/2027 Tuition Fee Exemptions and Scholarship Schemes

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has announced tuition fee exemptions, scholarships and special financial grants for eligible newly admitted students. The announcement was contained in an official notice dated 19 October 2026 and signed by the university’s Registrar, Mfon S. Ukpabio, MNIM.

Under the scheme, all newly admitted students in the Faculty of Agriculture will be exempted from tuition fees. However, they will still be required to pay applicable sundry charges. The university also listed French, History, Mathematics, Music and Statistics as programmes whose newly admitted students will benefit from tuition fee exemptions and Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships covering applicable sundry charges.

The university further announced that all international students will be entitled to special financial grants. The schemes are intended to provide financial support to students in the specified categories, although prospective applicants should confirm the applicable conditions and procedures with the university.

AKSU 16th Inaugural Lecture 2025/2026

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has announced its 16th Inaugural Lecture for the 2025/2026 academic session. The lecture will be delivered by Engr. Prof. Oladode Moses Olatunji, a Professor of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering.

The lecture, titled “From Waste to Watts: Advancing Bioenergy Systems Through Non-Edible Oilseeds and Circular Bio-Economy Innovations in Sub-Saharan Africa,” is scheduled to hold on Thursday, 26 November 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

The event will take place at the TETFUND Conference Centre, Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Otobasasi E. Akpan, OON, FHSN, will serve as the host.

The university has invited members of its community and the general public, including academics, researchers, students and other interested stakeholders, to attend the lecture.

AKSU Digital Clearance for Final-Year Students 2026

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has announced the commencement of digital clearance for final-year students. The notice, dated 20 October 2026, was signed by the SUG President, Sen. Elijah Koffi, and directs all final-year students to begin their clearance process online through the university’s designated portal.

Students are required to access the AKSU Digital Clearance Portal to begin the process. They should ensure that all documents uploaded are clearly scanned or photographed to prevent blurry submissions and that each document meets the portal’s specified requirements.

The SUG has also reminded students to submit prerequisite documents, including course registration forms, school fees receipts and relevant payment conversion or change-of-payment documents, to their designated offices or locations before proceeding with digital clearance, where applicable. Students are advised to ensure that these requirements are fulfilled to avoid delays in completing the process.

The Students’ Union Government expressed appreciation to the university management, the Vice-Chancellor, the ICT Centre, the Students’ Affairs Division and its Head of Administration for their efforts in facilitating the digital clearance process. The union reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and protecting the welfare of AKSU students and encouraged all final-year students to comply with the directive.

AKSU Approved Convocation Fees for 13th Convocation Ceremony

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has announced the approved convocation fees for graduates participating in its forthcoming 13th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to hold in December 2026. The announcement was contained in an official notice dated 8 October 2026, issued by the Office of the Registrar and addressed to all graduates.

According to the notice, payment of convocation fees is now ongoing. The university has approved different fees based on graduates’ qualifications, as outlined below.
