Sokoto State University  popularly known as SSU  is a public state university located in Sokoto, Sokoto State, Nigeria. Established in 2009 by the Sokoto State Government, the university was created to expand access to higher education and promote research, innovation, and human capital development in Northern Nigeria. SSU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and professional programmes across multiple faculties and departments. The institution is recognised by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Its motto is “It All Begins Here.” The current Vice-Chancellor is Prof. M.B. Yerima.

History of the Institution

Sokoto State University was established in 2009 during the administration of former Governor Aliyu Wamakko to provide more university admission opportunities for students in Sokoto State and surrounding regions.

Since inception, the university has expanded steadily in academic programmes, student population, staffing, research centres, and infrastructure. It now operates as one of the leading young state universities in North-West Nigeria.

The university has also developed centres for entrepreneurship, mathematical studies, research development, and historical studies including the Center for the Study of Sokoto Caliphate.

UTME (Undergraduate Admission)

SSU Part-Time Admission Programmes 2026/2027

Sokoto State University (SSU), through its Consultancy Services Unit (SOSUCONS), has announced the sale of application forms for admission into its Part-Time Certificate, Diploma and Undergraduate Degree programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session. The application process is open to members of the public interested in studying through the university’s part-time programmes.

Online sales of the application forms will begin on Monday, 28 September 2026. Interested applicants are expected to complete their applications through the designated online portal and should provide accurate information during the registration process.

The application window will close on Sunday, 8 November 2026. Applicants can access the form and begin the registration process through the SSU Consultancy Services application portal.

SSU Diploma Admission Form 2026/2027 is Out

Sokoto State University (SSU) has announced admission into 15 diploma programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session. Applications will open on Monday, 28 September 2026 and close on Sunday, 8 November 2026. All the programmes will be offered on a part-time basis, with classes scheduled from Friday to Sunday each week.

The available programmes include Diploma in Accounting, Arabic, Computer Sciences, Criminology and Security Studies, Data Science, Educational Management, Environmental Impact Assessment, Estate Management and Evaluation, Ethnobotany, Guidance and Counselling, Hydrology and Water Resources Management, Legislative Studies, Mass Communication, Plants Science and Biotechnology, and Public Policy and Administration.

Applicants are required to have four relevant O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics. The application fee is ₦6,000, excluding transaction charges. Interested candidates should visit the SSU application portal, select their preferred programme, review the requirements, create or access an account, make payment and complete the online application.

After payment, applicants can confirm their transaction through the Transaction History section before completing and submitting the form. SSU Certificate in Arabic Admission Form 2026/2027 is Out

Sokoto State University (SSU) has opened applications for admission into its Certificate in Arabic programme for the 2026/2027 academic session. The programme is offered on a part-time basis, with classes scheduled from Friday to Sunday each week. Applications will open on 28 September 2026 and close on 8 November 2026.

SSU Admission List

Sokoto State University have released its  2026/2027 First Batch Admission List online

Sokoto State University (SSU) has released its first batch of candidates admitted into various undergraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session. Candidates who participated in the university’s Post UTME screening can now check the published list to confirm whether they have been offered admission. The first-batch list is available through the SSU official Facebook admission post.

Candidates whose names appear on the list are expected to complete the necessary JAMB admission procedures by logging into their JAMB profile and using the JAMB CAPS admission platform to accept the offer. After successfully accepting the admission, candidates can proceed to print their JAMB admission letter.
