Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) is a Federal Government-owned university located in Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa State, North-Central Nigeria. The university was established on 9 February 2011 as one of the nine new federal universities created by the Federal Government of Nigeria to expand access to quality higher education across the country.

FULAFIA was established with the vision of becoming a centre of excellence in teaching, research and innovation while contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic development. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across diverse fields including Agriculture, Arts, Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Computing, Law, Management Sciences, Social Sciences, Sciences and Health Sciences.

History 

Federal University of Lafia was established in 2011 by the Federal Government of Nigeria as part of a national initiative to create additional federal universities and improve access to university education.

The university commenced academic activities during the 2011/2012 academic session at its temporary site along Obi Road, Lafia. It later moved to its permanent campus located along the Lafia–Makurdi Road, providing a larger environment for academic activities, research and student development.

FULAFIA was created to serve as an institution that combines quality teaching, research and community service. Its academic philosophy focuses on producing graduates with relevant knowledge and skills capable of contributing to national development.

Over the years, the university has expanded beyond its initial faculties to include professional programmes in Medicine, Nursing, Law, Engineering, Computing and other fields. FULafia SUG Provides Update on Post-UTME Portal Closure

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has informed students and prospective applicants that the university’s Post-UTME screening portal is currently closed. The notice was issued by the Office of the Director of Academics 1 of the FULafia Students’ Union.

According to the SUG, the closure of the portal has been observed and the union is currently engaging relevant authorities to investigate the situation. FULAFIA Extends Registrar’s Tenure Until 2028

The Governing Council of the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA), Nasarawa State, has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the university’s Registrar, Dr Nuradeen Abdu.

UNIUYO SIWES Logbook Endorsement and Report Submission 2026

The University of Uyo (UNIUYO), through its Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Directorate, has released guidelines for students who have completed their industrial attachment for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions. The industrial attachment commenced on 2 April 2026 and ended on 2 September 2026.

Returning students who have completed the required 24 weeks (six months) of uninterrupted industrial attachment are required to present their SIWES logbooks and information sheets for endorsement at the SIWES Directorate between 13 and 16 October 2026. Students are expected to attend on the date assigned to their departments.

Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa was established on 1st July 1983 by the Federal Government of Nigeria under Decree No. 33 of 1979, as amended by Decree No. 28 of 1987. Its founding mandate was to provide full-time and part-time training in technology, applied science, commerce, and management, in line with Nigeria’s national development goals.

The polytechnic commenced academic activities on 30th January 1984, with an initial enrolment of 220 students spread across seven departments: Accountancy, Business Administration and Management, Secretarial Studies, Architectural Technology, Estate Management, Building and Quantity Surveying, and Liberal Studies. These departments were divided between two founding schools — the School of Business Administration and the School of Environmental Studies. The institution started with a total staff strength of 223, made up of 57 senior and 166 junior staff.

In its early days, the polytechnic operated out of the Central Primary School as a temporary headquarters. By 1986, it had expanded to offer Higher National Diploma programmes in Business Administration and Management, and Accountancy, marking the beginning of a period of sustained academic growth. Today, FedPolyNas has grown into a major centre of technical education, with over 20,000 students, seven academic schools, and a track record of producing graduates who are leading critical sectors of the economy. The institution hosted the 19th Nigeria Polytechnic Games Association (NIPOGA) events in 2017 and received TETFund support for infrastructure development.

ND (National Diploma) Admission

  • A minimum of five (5) O’Level credit passes including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, GCE O’Level, or NABTEB.

The Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa has reminded all new and returning students to complete their registration for the 2026/2027 academic session. The institution stated that the new academic session commenced on 7 September 2026.

UNIZIK Intra-University Transfer Application 2026/2027 Opens

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has opened applications for intra-university transfer for the 2026/2027 academic session. The exercise is available to undergraduate students who wish to move from their current Faculty, Department, or Programme to another within the University.

Interested students are required to apply online through the UNIZIK change of course portal using their registration number or email address and student portal password. Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has opened applications for supplementary admission for the 2026/2027 academic session. The exercise is for prospective UTME candidates who successfully registered for the university’s Post-UTME screening and have not already been offered admission into any department. The application period runs from 16 September to 27 September 2026.

Applicants should note that they must ensure their O’Level results are properly uploaded to JAMB CAPS to facilitate admission processing. Candidates who are eventually considered for a change of programme should also regularly check the JAMB CAPS Transfer Approval section and accept the transfer when it is posted. Intra-university transfer to another programme is only possible after two years of study.

UNIZIK Announces Hostel Accommodation Fees and Application Dates 2026/2027

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has announced the approved hostel accommodation fees and application guidelines for students seeking university hostel residency for the 2026/2027 academic session. The notice applies to students at the Awka and Agulu campuses, including returning students and those applying for hostel accommodation for the first time.

According to the Students’ Affairs Department, returning students who stayed in the university hostels during the 2025/2026 session and students who did not reside in the hostels but wish to apply for accommodation are eligible. The approved fees are ₦80,000 for returning students and ₦128,000 for new students in the regular hostels. For the new Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Female Hostel, returning students will pay ₦150,000, while new students will pay ₦200,000.

The hostel retention and room change process for returning students will run from 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2026, to 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2026. Students who did not previously reside in university hostels but wish to apply for accommodation can submit applications from Wednesday, September 24, to Friday, September 26, 2026, subject to available spaces.

The university also announced that the hostel portal for new students will open on Wednesday, October 1. New students are required to obtain their school registration number before applying. Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has released its approved academic calendar for the 2026/2027 academic session for regular undergraduate students. The university’s Senate approved the calendar at its 246th meeting held on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.

New students are expected to continue registration and begin lectures on Monday, 12 October 2026, while returning students are scheduled to return on Wednesday, 14 October 2026 to continue fee payments, course registration, documentation and lectures. The first semester will include the university’s convocation ceremonies for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 sessions, scheduled for 15–20 November 2026.

Scholarships

UNIZIK, OPay Sign ₦60 Million Scholarship Agreement

Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has signed a memorandum of understanding with OPay for a 10-year scholarship programme to support 20 indigent students annually. OPay’s Head of Partnership, Mr I. K. Odiase, said each beneficiary would receive ₦300,000 per year, bringing the total value of the programme to ₦60 million over the 10-year period.

Odiase explained that the partnership followed a visit by an OPay delegation to the university and was designed to help students meet their educational expenses. He added that UNIZIK was selected for the second phase of the initiative following feedback from beneficiaries of an earlier phase. OPay’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Mr Itoro Udo, said UNIZIK was the 26th tertiary institution to join the programme, with the organisation targeting 41 institutions by the end of the year.

Udo also highlighted OPay’s Innovation Challenge, which has involved about 48 universities and shortlisted 10 teams. A team from UNIZIK reached the boot camp, while the top four teams are expected to present technology-driven proposals at the grand finale to partners including Google, 3MTT, Visa and VERVE. He also noted that OPay’s partnership with 3MTT provides opportunities for outstanding students to gain internship and job-placement experience in financial technology and other corporate sectors before graduation.

UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Anyaehie, welcomed the partnership and expressed interest in further collaboration in technology, innovation and accessibility, including the possible installation of a lift in a university building to improve access for persons with disabilities. The visit concluded with the signing of the agreement. However, details on the scholarship application process and selection timetable have not yet been announced.

The Faculty of Medicine, College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Nnewi Campus, has issued a notice to students seeking intra-university transfer into the Faculty for the 2026/2027 academic session. The notice applies to qualified candidates who have successfully submitted their transfer applications through the university portal.

The Faculty has directed all concerned applicants to submit the required documents to the Office of the Dean, Faculty of Medicine. The documents are needed to support the processing of their transfer applications.

The required documents include transcripts of first- and second-semester results for all academic years and evidence of the transfer application submitted through the university portal. Applicants are expected to ensure that all documents are complete before submission.

UNIZIK Medical School Gets Full MDCN Accreditation, Quota Rises to 300

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has granted full accreditation to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), following a recent re-accreditation exercise conducted at the university.

The development also comes with an increase in the medical school’s admission quota from 100 to 300 students. The new quota allows the university to admit a larger number of students into the MBBS programme, subject to the applicable admission requirements.

The accreditation exercise also covered the university’s Dental programme. The development followed the conclusion of the MDCN team’s re-accreditation exercise for the MBBS programme and accreditation exercise for the Dental programme.

Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, expressed appreciation for the outcome and acknowledged the role of God in the university’s achievement. The full accreditation marks an important development for the university’s medical education programmes.

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has appointed 13 new Professors across various academic disciplines, further strengthening the university’s senior academic cadre. The appointments cover areas including Pharmaceutical Sciences, Health Sciences, Education and other fields.

The newly appointed Professors are Dr Mary O. Ologe – Pharmacology & Therapeutics; Dr Hafsat A. Ameen – Epidemiology & Community Health; Dr Oluwabunmi I. N. Buhari – Behavioural Sciences; Dr A. Saidu – Arts Education; Dr Aminat A. Odebode – Counsellor Education; Dr Falilat A. Okesina – Counsellor Education; Dr A. T. Muritala – Education Management; Dr A. A. Lawal – Education Management; Dr A. A. Atolagbe – Education Management; Dr O. J. Ojo – Education Management; Dr A. A. Tijani – Education Management; Dr A. M. Akanmu – Science Education; and Dr S. T. Abdullahi – Pharmaceutical & Medical Chemistry.

The appointments come as UNILORIN continues efforts to strengthen academic excellence and leadership. In April 2026, the university announced the promotion of 43 academic staff to the rank of Professor, following approval by the Governing Council.

The newly appointed Professors are expected to contribute to teaching, research, postgraduate supervision and academic leadership, as well as support the continued development of the university.

UNILORIN 41st Convocation Ceremony Dates and Instructions for Graduands

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has announced the programme of activities for its 41st Convocation Ceremonies, scheduled for 16–25 October 2026 on the university’s Main Campus in Ilorin. The ceremonies will include the conferment of First and Higher Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates, as well as the presentation of prizes to deserving graduands.

Activities will begin on Friday, 16 October with a Special Juma’at Service at the Central Mosque at 1:30 p.m., followed by an Interdenominational Service on Sunday, 18 October. Other activities include the Vice-Chancellor’s Press Briefing and Media Chat on 19 October and the convocation play, The Death of the King’s Horseman, on 20 October. Convocation ceremonies will hold from 21–23 October, with graduands from different faculties assigned to specific days. The convocation lecture on 23 October will be delivered by Hon. Dr Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Sierra Leone.

UNILORIN has also outlined payments and other requirements for graduands. Undergraduate, Master’s and other postgraduate graduands are required to pay ₦20,000 for a student’s copy of transcript and certificate, while PhD graduands are required to pay ₦10,000 for the certificate. Diploma graduands are required to pay ₦20,000 for their certificate and student’s copy of transcript, with other applicable charges covering items such as academic gown hire and convocation materials.

Graduands can collect their Order of Proceedings and academic gowns from 19 October 2026 upon presentation of evidence of payment. Those attending the ceremony are required to participate in the Academic Procession and wear the approved academic outfit. Hired gowns must be returned by 26 October 2026, after which a ₦5,000 daily fine applies. Payments are to be made through the UNILORIN Convocation Portal using MasterCard or Visa ATM cards. PhD graduands must purchase the university’s academic gown, while all graduands are also required to complete the UNILORIN Alumni Association Google Form and retain evidence of submission. The university advised graduands to check its official website for the list of graduands and their graduation status.

The University of Ibadan (UI) has released its admission list for the 2026/2027 academic session. Candidates who participated in the university’s admission screening exercise can now check their provisional admission status through the JAMB Central Admission Processing System (CAPS).

Candidates can check their admission status by visiting the JAMB e-Facility portal at https://efacility.jamb.gov.ng/ and logging in with their registered email address and password. The University of Ibadan (UI) Students’ Union has announced that Thursday, 17 September and Friday, 18 September 2026 have been approved as lecture-free days to support activities marking the 2026 Students’ Union Week.

The two days are intended to allow students to participate in major Union Week programmes without conflicts with academic activities. The schedule includes Ojude UI on Thursday, 17 September at the Old Stadium, SUB.

On Friday, 18 September, students are expected to participate in the Vice-Chancellor’s Marathon and Inter-House Sports Exhibition, also organised as part of the Union Week programme.

AKSU Approved Convocation Fees for 13th Convocation Ceremony

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has announced the approved convocation fees for graduates participating in its forthcoming 13th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to hold in December 2026. The announcement was contained in an official notice dated 8 October 2026, issued by the Office of the Registrar and addressed to all graduates.

According to the notice, payment of convocation fees is now ongoing. The university has approved different fees based on graduates’ qualifications, as outlined below.

AKSU Automates Final-Year Clearance Process

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has announced the automation of its final-year clearance process for all graduating students. The new digital system is designed to make the clearance process more seamless, efficient, transparent and convenient for eligible students.

Under the new arrangement, final-year students will be able to complete their clearance electronically from their preferred locations without moving physically between different clearance points. The process will begin at the students’ respective Departments and proceed through the designated clearance units before reaching the Office of the Registrar for final clearance.

AKSU stated that the automated system is expected to speed up final-year clearance and NYSC documentation, reduce delays and administrative bottlenecks, and allow students to monitor the status of their clearance in real time through their login dashboard. Students are advised to ensure that their files, course registration forms and other required documents are complete and up to date.

Each final-year student is required to pay a non-refundable clearance processing fee of ₦5,200. The payment details are as follows:

The automated clearance process is scheduled to commence on Monday, 12 October 2026. The University said the fee covers the automation and administration of the clearance process, NYSC mobilisation/NERD sensitisation and NERD processing services, and advised all final-year students to comply with the directive.

AKSU Bans Sign-Out Activities and Rowdy Celebrations After Exams

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has banned sign-out activities and other forms of rowdy celebrations by students after the completion of examinations. The directive was issued by the university’s Directorate of Students’ Affairs in a notice dated 18 September 2026 and addressed to the student community.

According to the notice, activities such as loud music, bonfires, car convoys, vandalism, cult-related displays, rough driving and other disruptive engagements within the campus are prohibited. The university stated that the decision was taken to protect students and staff, prevent injuries and maintain peace and discipline within the university environment.

However, AKSU noted that moderate celebrations such as group photographs and sign-on endorsements may be allowed, provided they are conducted responsibly and without disrupting campus activities. Students, departments, associations or groups involved in prohibited activities may face disciplinary action.

FUNAAB 116th Inaugural Lecture

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has announced its 116th Inaugural Lecture, with members of the public invited to attend the academic event. The lecture is being hosted on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate and the university community by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Babatunde Kehinde.

The lecture will be delivered by Professor Babatunde Saheed Bada, Professor of Environmental Management and Bioremediation in the Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology, College of Environmental Resources Management, FUNAAB. His lecture is titled “Harnessing Green Technology for a Sustainable Future Environment” and will focus on eco-friendly innovations and strategies for environmental sustainability.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with guests expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m. The lecture will take place at the Professor Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building, FUNAAB.

FUNAAB Medical Registration Schedule for Fresh Students, 2026/2027

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has released the schedule for the 2026/2027 medical tests, examination and registration exercise for newly admitted students.
