History of the Institution

The Zamfara State College of Nursing Sciences was carved out of the former Zamfara State College of Nursing and Midwifery in 2013 by Zamfara State Law No. 13 of November 2013 and Zamfara State Law No. 11 of 1st August 2019. Prior to this separation, the institution operated as a combined nursing and midwifery college before the state government restructured it into a dedicated College of Nursing Sciences. The Nana Babajo School of Midwifery was retained as a separate entity within the college structure to continue offering midwifery training.

Since its establishment as a standalone nursing college, ZACONS has focused on building a high-quality nursing education programme that meets NMCN standards and addresses the healthcare workforce needs of Zamfara State and the broader North-West region. The college has achieved full accreditation status for all its programmes from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and has embraced digital innovation — operating a Virtual Learning Management System (VLMS), an E-Library, and an online application and student portal. The college’s admission forms for its various programmes are released annually through its official portal.
