Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) is a Federal Government-owned university located in Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa State, North-Central Nigeria. The university was established on 9 February 2011 as one of the nine new federal universities created by the Federal Government of Nigeria to expand access to quality higher education across the country.

FULAFIA was established with the vision of becoming a centre of excellence in teaching, research and innovation while contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic development. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across diverse fields including Agriculture, Arts, Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Computing, Law, Management Sciences, Social Sciences, Sciences and Health Sciences.

Since its establishment, the university has grown from its temporary take-off location into a multi-faculty institution with a permanent campus along the Lafia–Makurdi Road. It has expanded its academic programmes, student population and infrastructure while developing professional programmes such as Medicine, Nursing Science, Pharmacy, Law, Engineering and other specialised disciplines.

History of Federal University of Lafia

Federal University of Lafia was established in 2011 by the Federal Government of Nigeria as part of a national initiative to create additional federal universities and improve access to university education.

The university commenced academic activities during the 2011/2012 academic session at its temporary site along Obi Road, Lafia. It later moved to its permanent campus located along the Lafia–Makurdi Road, providing a larger environment for academic activities, research and student development.

FULAFIA was created to serve as an institution that combines quality teaching, research and community service. Its academic philosophy focuses on producing graduates with relevant knowledge and skills capable of contributing to national development.

Over the years, the university has expanded beyond its initial faculties to include professional programmes in Medicine, Nursing, Law, Engineering, Computing and other fields. It currently serves students from different parts of Nigeria and continues to develop as one of the growing federal universities in the country.

FULAFIA Extends Registrar’s Tenure Until 2028

The Governing Council of the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA), Nasarawa State, has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the university’s Registrar, Dr Nuradeen Abdu.

The approval was granted during the Council’s 28th Regular Meeting held at the Old Senate Chamber of the university’s Permanent Site Campus.

The Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Modupeola Adebimpe Adebajo, congratulated the Registrar on the extension and acknowledged his contributions to the development of the Registry Department and the overall administration of the university.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Isa Kida, also congratulated Dr Abdu and wished him success as he continues in office. Following the extension, Dr Nuradeen Abdu will remain the Registrar of FULAFIA until 2028.
