University of Africa, Toru-Orua — popularly known as UAT — is a public state university located in Toru-Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. It is one of Nigeria’s newer public universities and is owned by the Bayelsa State Government. UAT officially admitted its first undergraduate cohort in 2017 and was established with a strong vision of internationalisation, innovation, entrepreneurship, and globally competitive education. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, JUPEB, transfer admission, part-time, and continuing education programmes. The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Solomon Tamarabrakemi Ebobrah.

History of the Institution

University of Africa, Toru-Orua was founded by the Bayelsa State Government to expand higher education opportunities and create a globally oriented university in the Niger Delta region.

The institution began academic development in the mid-2010s and welcomed its first set of undergraduate students in 2017. Since inception, UAT has continued to grow in academic programmes, digital services, partnerships, and infrastructure.

The university positions itself as a modern state university that combines public-sector support with entrepreneurial and private-sector management ideas.

NUC Approves New Postgraduate Programmes For University Of Africa, Toru-Orua

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted official approval to the University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT), Bayelsa State, to commence several new postgraduate programmes.

The approval followed a successful resource verification exercise conducted by a panel of experts from the Commission, who assessed the University’s human and material resources. In a letter dated 30 January 2026, and signed by Abubakar M. Girei, Director of Academic Planning, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, the NUC authorised the programmes to take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.

Approved Postgraduate Programmes

The approval covers full-time Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master’s, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes in the following disciplines:

  • Accounting (PGD, M.Sc., PhD)

  • Biology (PGD, M.Sc., PhD)

  • Business Administration (PGD, M.Sc., MBA, PhD)

  • Biochemistry (PGD, M.Sc., PhD)

  • Educational Management (PGD, M.Ed., PhD)

  • Mass Communication (PGD, M.Sc., PhD)

  • Computer Science (PGD, M.Sc., PhD)

  • Political Science (PGD, M.Sc., PhD)

  • Theatre and Film Studies (PGD, M.A., PhD)

EducationNGR also learnt that the programmes are approved strictly under the full-time study mode.

NUC Guidelines For Implementation

The Commission stated clearly that the approval applies only to full-time programmes. The University is required to formally notify the NUC and obtain separate approval before introducing any part-time versions of the programmes.

In addition, the University of Africa, Toru-Orua, is expected to:

  • Maintain the approved programme titles and nomenclature

  • Provide and sustain adequate human and material resources

  • Seek further approval before making any changes to programme titles or curricula

It’s that season again, when hearts race and fingers cross. The University of Africa, Toru-Orua, simply called UAT, has finally put out its admission list for the 2025/2026 session. For many hopefuls, this is the paper that turns the dream into reality. The list holds the names of candidates offered seats across different degree courses.

If you took part, now is the time to check, to breathe in, and maybe shout for joy if your name appears. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though. First things first, how do you even find out?

How to Check UAT Admission List

Here’s the simple way to see if you made it:

It sounds basic, but yes, it really is that straight. If your name is on the list, don’t just relax. You still have a few steps to lock it down.

Steps After Confirming Admission

This is where things stretch out a little. Take them one at a time and you will be fine.

Step 1: Accept on JAMB CAPS

Step 2: Accept on UAT Portal

  • Go to the UAT clearance page.
  • Find the “2025/2026 Acceptance” section.
  • If you need an e-pin, click Get e-pin Now.
  • If you already bought one, select Already have e-pin.
  • Fill in your JAMB number, score, plus your personal details like name, email, and phone.
  • Submit and move to payment.

Step 3: Make Payment and Register

  • Pay with your debit card, nothing fancy.
  • After payment, watch your email and SMS, you’ll get an Admission ID and Password.
  • Use those to log in and complete your bio-data, including where you schooled before, primary and secondary.

Step 4: Wait for Verification

  • The admission officer will compare your details with JAMB records.
  • Once everything tallies, you’ll get a text message to confirm.

Step 5: Pay Fees and Print Documents

  • Log in again to pay your school fees.
  • Print out all the needed documents once the payment is cleared.
  • Take the affidavit form to a court to get it signed and stamped.
