Bayero University Kano (BUK) is one of Nigeria’s leading federal universities located in Kano State. The institution began as Ahmadu Bello College in 1960, which was later renamed Abdullahi Bayero College after the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Abdullahi Bayero.

In 1962, the college became part of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, serving as a university college that offered degree programmes. In 1975, the Federal Government upgraded the institution to a full-fledged university and it became known as Bayero University Kano (BUK).

Over the years, the university has expanded significantly and now offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across many disciplines including sciences, medicine, engineering, social sciences, and humanities.

BUK UTME Screening Portal Reopens 2026/2027

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has reopened its UTME screening portal for eligible candidates seeking admission into the university for the 2026/2027 academic session. The reopening provides another opportunity for candidates who are yet to complete the screening registration.

According to a special bulletin issued by the university on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, the screening portal will remain open from Thursday, 1 October to Sunday, 4 October 2026.

Candidates who scored 160 and above in the 2026 UTME and wish to be considered for admission into BUK are eligible to complete the screening registration. Applicants are advised to provide the required information and ensure that their registration is completed correctly.

The university has urged eligible candidates to take advantage of the reopening and complete their applications before the deadline. The screening portal will close on Sunday, 4 October 2026, and late registration may not be accepted.

BUK Add/Drop Exercise 2025/2026

Bayero University Kano (BUK) has released guidelines for the second semester add/drop course exercise for undergraduate students for the 2025/2026 academic session. The exercise is open to affected students who wish to add or drop courses and will run for two weeks, from 5 to 18 October 2026.

Students intending to participate must have completed their registration with the university for the 2025/2026 session and should first meet their Level Coordinator for guidance. After obtaining the necessary guidance, students are required to make payment through Remita by selecting the UG Add and Drop service.

The university’s portal will be available to eligible students from Monday, 5 October to Sunday, 18 October 2026. After completing the exercise, students should reprint their Course Registration Form (CRF) and submit it to their Level Coordinator for documentation.

The closing date for the add/drop exercise is 18 October 2026. Students are advised to keep a photocopy of their payment receipt for future reference. For further enquiries or clarification, students can contact the designated officer via .

BUK NELFUND Applications and Refund Claims 2026/2027

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has announced that the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has commenced applications for the 2026/2027 academic session. Students who wish to apply for the student loan are advised to complete their applications through the official NELFUND portal.

Students with Change of Course or Change of Institution requests are also required to complete the designated Google Form and provide accurate information to support the processing of their requests. The 2026/2027 NELFUND application exercise will remain open until 31 December 2026.

Meanwhile, students with outstanding NELFUND refund claims are advised to submit their Remita payment receipts or Statements of Result to the NELFUND Desk Office, located on the 3rd Floor, Senate Building. Submission of the documents will commence on Monday, 5 October 2026.

BUK advised all concerned students to complete the relevant requirements within the stipulated period and ensure that the information provided during the application or refund process is accurate. Students should also follow the university’s official communication for any further instructions regarding the NELFUND exercise.

BUK Veterinary Students Dress Code for World Rabies Day 2026

The Association of Veterinary Medical Students, Bayero University Kano (AVMS BUK), has issued a dress code notice to members ahead of the 2026 World Rabies Day celebration.

In a memo dated Friday, September 25, 2026, the association directed all members to appear in full corporate dress on Monday, September 28, 2026 for the scheduled activities.

The approved dress code consists of a long-sleeve shirt, neck tie, covered shoes, and a lab coat with name tag. Members are expected to dress accordingly for official photographs, parade activities, media appearances and other programmes lined up for the celebration.

AVMS BUK urged members to comply fully with the directive, noting that participants would be representing the association and the veterinary profession during the World Rabies Day activities.

BUK Warns Against Fraudulent Facebook Account Impersonating Vice-Chancellor

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has warned the public, staff, students and other stakeholders about a fraudulent Facebook account allegedly created to impersonate the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, fsi. The university said the account is being used to falsely present the operator as the Vice-Chancellor.

According to the university, the operators of the fake account have been directing unsuspecting individuals to communicate privately through WhatsApp using 09128675732 and other phone numbers. BUK clarified that the Vice-Chancellor has not authorised, created or consented to the Facebook account or any related WhatsApp contact.

The university also stated that no individual or group has been authorised to solicit money, offer employment, facilitate admissions or conduct official university business through personal social media accounts or private WhatsApp numbers. Members of the public are therefore advised not to engage or transact with the operators of the fraudulent account.

BUK said the matter has been formally reported to relevant law enforcement agencies for investigation and prosecution. The university advised the public to rely on its official communication channels for authentic information and warned that it would not be responsible for financial losses or other damages arising from dealings with the impersonators.
