LASUED
Lagos State University of Education – LASUED

Lagos State University of Education  popularly known as LASUED  is a state government-owned university located in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria. The university officially emerged in 2022 following the merger of the former Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Oto/Ijanikin, and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED), Noforija, Epe. LASUED is recognised as the first specialized University of Education in Lagos State and one of the few dedicated education universities in Nigeria.

The institution was established to produce highly skilled teachers, researchers, administrators, and professionals in education and related disciplines. LASUED offers undergraduate degree programmes, diploma programmes, certificate programmes, and postgraduate studies across multiple colleges including Humanities, Sciences, Vocational Education, Technology Education, Languages, Social Sciences, and Professional Education.

The university operates two major campuses:

  • Oto/Ijanikin Campus along Badagry Expressway
  • Noforija, Epe Campus

LASUED is fully approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC), and its programmes are recognised nationwide.

History of the Institution

The history of LASUED is closely connected to the development of teacher education in Lagos State. The university evolved from two long-standing colleges of education owned by the Lagos State Government — Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED).

AOCOED itself traces its roots to the Lagos Teacher Training College at Ebute Elefun, Lagos Island, making it one of the oldest teacher-training institutions associated with Lagos State educational development. Over decades, both AOCOED and MOCPED trained thousands of teachers and education professionals across Nigeria.

In February 2022, the National Universities Commission (NUC) approved the establishment of Lagos State University of Education after the merger of both institutions. The university immediately commenced operations with sixty-seven take-off programmes across several colleges.

LASUED was created to address the growing demand for modern teacher education, educational technology, entrepreneurship, special education, and professional academic training in Lagos State and Nigeria at large. Since its establishment as a university, the institution has expanded its academic offerings, digital learning systems, research activities, and campus infrastructure.
