Michael Otedola College of Primary Education  widely known as MOCPED  is a public college of education located in Noforija-Epe, Lagos State, South-West Nigeria . Established in 1994, MOCPED holds the distinction of being the first specialized college of primary education in Nigeria . The college was formerly known as Lagos State College of Primary Education before being renamed after Michael Otedola, a former Governor of Lagos State . The institution is fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and operates on the motto “Professional Excellence” .

The college runs both National Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes and degree programmes in affiliation with the University of Ibadan (UI) and Ekiti State University . The current Provost is Associate Professor Nosiru Olajide Onibon . The institution currently enrolls approximately 4,000 students .

History of the Institution

Michael Otedola College of Primary Education was established in 1994 by the Lagos State Government as the first specialized college of primary education in Nigeria . The college was created with a mandate to provide quality teacher education focused specifically on primary education, addressing the critical need for well-trained non-graduate teachers in Lagos State and across Nigeria.

The college was originally named Lagos State College of Primary Education. It was later renamed Michael Otedola College of Primary Education in honour of Senator Michael Otedola, who served as Governor of Lagos State from 1992 to 1993. Otedola was a renowned educationist and journalist who prioritized educational development during his tenure.

The institution has grown steadily since its founding, expanding its academic offerings from primary education studies to include a wide range of NCE programmes across multiple schools. MOCPED also established affiliation agreements with the University of Ibadan and Ekiti State University to run degree programmes in Education, allowing students to earn Bachelor’s degrees while studying at the college .

In recent years, the institution has modernized its operations, implementing an online student portal system (aims.mocped.edu.ng) for applications, fee payments, course registration, and result checking . The 2024/2025 academic session is currently ongoing .

Admission Requirements

NCE (Undergraduate) Admission

  • A minimum of five (5) O’Level credit passes including English Language, obtained in not more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, GCE O’Level, or NABTEB.

  • A valid JAMB UTME score meeting the minimum cut-off mark is required.

  • Candidates with a Senior Arabic and Islamic Studies Certificate or Higher Arabic Islamic Studies Certificate from recognized institutions with not less than five credits/merits may also be considered .

  • All eligible candidates must participate in the MOCPED Post-UTME screening exercise.

Direct Entry Admission

  • Candidates with relevant A’Level passes, NCE, ND, or equivalent qualifications may apply for Direct Entry.

  • Relevant O’Level credit requirements apply in addition.

  • Candidates must meet University of Ibadan degree programme admission requirements in addition to MOCPED requirements.
