The University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (UAES), Umuagwo, is a state-owned university established by the Imo State Government in 2019. Located in Umuagwo, Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, the university was created to expand access to higher education and develop skilled graduates in agriculture, environmental management, science, technology, engineering and other related disciplines.
UAES operates five major faculties: Agriculture; Arts, Management and Social Sciences; Engineering; Environmental Sciences; and Science and Computing. Its academic focus reflects the institution’s mandate to promote agricultural development, environmental sustainability, scientific research, technological innovation and entrepreneurship.
The university offers undergraduate programmes in areas such as Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, Crop Science, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Food Science and Technology, Civil Engineering, Accounting, Business Administration, Environmental Management and other disciplines. It also provides postgraduate and continuing education opportunities.
UAES recorded an important milestone in September 2026 when it held its maiden convocation ceremony, graduating 505 students, including 20 first-class graduates. The university also continues to develop research and institutional partnerships, including collaboration with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency on climate research.
For prospective students, UAES provides an opportunity to study in a state university with an academic focus on agriculture, environmental sciences and related professional fields.
History of the Institution
The University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences was established through Imo State Parliament Law No. 4 of 2019. The legislation was part of the Imo State Government’s effort to expand tertiary education opportunities and establish a university dedicated to agriculture, environmental sciences and related disciplines.
The original establishment plan involved using the premises of the former Imo State Polytechnic at Umuagwo, with a proposed main campus at Aboh/Okpala. However, the government later reviewed the arrangement and moved the university’s main campus back to Umuagwo after resolving issues surrounding the initial plan.
The university commenced its academic development with five faculties covering Agriculture, Engineering, Science and Computing, Arts, Management and Social Sciences, and Environmental Sciences. These faculties provide the academic structure for its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
In 2024, the National Universities Commission (NUC) conducted an accreditation exercise involving Petroleum Engineering at the university. The NUC subsequently upheld an interim accreditation status for that particular programme. Applicants should therefore verify the current accreditation status of their intended course rather than assume that all programmes have the same status.
UAES held its maiden convocation ceremony on 5 September 2026, marking a significant stage in the institution’s development.

Cut-Off Mark
The University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences announced a minimum UTME cut-off mark of 150 for the 2026/2027 undergraduate admission exercise.

Candidates should check the university’s latest admission announcements for changes to departmental requirements and screening procedures.
School Fees
School fees at UAES depend on the student’s programme, level of study and applicable academic charges. Other costs may include acceptance fees, registration, laboratory or practical charges, examinations, library services and other approved levies.
A single verified fee schedule covering all undergraduate programmes and levels for the 2026/2027 session was not available during the preparation of this page. Prospective students should therefore avoid relying on unofficial fee estimates when planning their admission.
Newly admitted candidates should check their student portal for the approved payment schedule and confirm the amount payable before making any transaction. Returning students should also use the official portal to access their session-specific charges.
Hostel and Accommodation
UAES provides hostel accommodation for students, subject to the university’s allocation arrangements and available spaces.
In a hostel residence notice published in September 2025, the university directed that first-year and final-year students must reside in the university’s designated hostel accommodation. Students should confirm whether this policy remains applicable to their admission year and level.
Applicants should contact the Students’ Affairs Unit to obtain current information about hostel availability, allocation, accommodation charges and payment procedures.
Students who intend to live outside the campus should make proper enquiries about private accommodation in Umuagwo and nearby communities. They should inspect accommodation facilities and confirm rental conditions before making payment.
