Fed Poly Bida SUG Issues Guidelines on Sign-Out Celebrations

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal Polytechnic Bida has issued a clarification regarding sign-out activities and celebrations by graduating students. The statement followed discussions between the Union leadership and the Polytechnic management over concerns surrounding the celebrations.

According to the SUG, the school management is not against students organising sign-out celebrations but expects such activities to be carried out in an orderly manner. The major concern raised by the management is the blockage of the school entrance and main road, which affects movement and causes inconvenience to students, staff, and visitors.

The Union advised students to use designated areas or the sides of the school premises for their celebrations rather than obstructing the main entrance or roads. Students were also encouraged to celebrate responsibly and ensure their activities do not disrupt the normal operations of the Polytechnic.

The SUG added that the Director of Security and the Dean of Student Affairs are aware of the arrangements and will continue to monitor the activities to ensure compliance with the school’s guidelines.

Federal Polytechnic Bida Suspends Sign-Out Activities Until Further Notice

The Federal Polytechnic Bida has suspended and prohibited all sign-out activities within the Polytechnic premises following a security alert from the Directorate of Security and Related Matters (DSRM). The directive takes effect after the completion of the ongoing 2025/2026 Second Semester Examinations and will remain in force until further notice.

According to Management, the security report indicated that sign-out gatherings could create opportunities for rival groups to converge, with potential risks including retaliatory attacks, cult-related clashes, unauthorised entry of outsiders, dangerous weapons, panic, property damage and disruption of academic activities. The measure is intended to protect lives and property and ensure the peaceful completion of the examinations.

Management warned that any department, class or student group that violates the directive may have the final examination paper of the affected class or group cancelled, subject to the decision of the appropriate academic authority. The affected students may also be prevented from retaking the examination until Management or the Academic Board determines when it can be conducted.

Heads of Departments have been directed to communicate the suspension to students and ensure compliance. The circular has also been submitted to the Academic Board for consideration and ratification. Management stressed that the directive is a preventive, security-driven measure and urged all students and staff to treat it as urgent and comply strictly.

COOU Opens Supplementary Admission for 2026/2027 Session

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, has opened applications for its 2026/2027 undergraduate supplementary admission exercise. The opportunity is available to prospective UTME candidates who registered for the university’s Post-UTME screening and wish to be considered for admission into other available departments.

Applications opened on October 17, 2026, at 12 noon and will close on October 23, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Candidates must score at least 150 in the 2026 UTME for non-professional courses and 200 for professional courses marked with an asterisk in the university’s list of programmes. Applicants must also satisfy the minimum entry requirements for their chosen courses and have taken the appropriate UTME subject combination.

COOU Academic Calendar 2026/2027

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has released the academic calendar for the 2026/2027 academic session, outlining dates for registration, lectures, examinations, matriculation and other academic activities. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for 16 new academic programmes following the successful completion of the Commission’s resource verification exercise. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, announced the development on Thursday, 24 September 2026, during the university’s 35th Inaugural Lecture.

The approval followed an NUC verification exercise conducted at the university to assess the infrastructure, facilities and other resources available for the proposed programmes. With the approval now secured, the university can proceed with the process of admitting students into the newly approved programmes.

Candidates with an ND pass may be considered after two years of relevant work experience. Applicants must also meet the required O’Level conditions, while candidates from other institutions must submit their academic transcripts. Following the release of the 2026 NECO results, candidates who have not registered for the screening exercise, as well as those whose registration was affected by O’Level deficiencies, are advised to complete or update their applications through the ABU portal at https://portal.abu.edu.ng/forms/putme.

The second phase of the screening exercise will run from Monday, September 28 to Wednesday, September 30, 2026, after which the admission process will commence. ABU Suspends Implementation of Increased School Charges

Federal University Otuoke (FUOTUOKE) has commenced its 2026/2027 Post UTME screening exercise for qualified JAMB UTME candidates. Applicants who selected the university as their first choice and scored at least 150 in the 2026 UTME are eligible to apply. Candidates who initially selected another institution can also apply if they meet the 150 UTME score requirement, but they must first complete a JAMB change of institution or course to Federal University Otuoke and select an available programme.

The FUOTUOKE Post UTME application fee is N2,000, which is non-refundable. Candidates are required to make payment through the university portal using an Interswitch Verve or Mastercard debit card. Federal University Otuoke (FUO) has invited applications from suitably qualified candidates for vacant academic and senior administrative positions across selected faculties, departments and directorates. The Federal University Otuoke (FUOTUOKE), Bayelsa State, has announced its 34th inaugural lecture, scheduled for Wednesday, 28 October 2026. The lecture will be delivered by Engr. Professor Ernest Mbamalu Ezeh, a Professor of Chemical Engineering specialising in Separation Processes. Titled “From Chaos to Clarity: The Symphony of Separation Processes for Circular Economy Solutions and Planetary Protection,” the lecture will explore the relevance of separation processes to circular economy solutions and environmental protection.

FUTO Supplementary Post-UTME Screening 2026/2027

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has announced its 2026/2027 Post-UTME Supplementary Screening Exercise for candidates seeking admission into the university. The application portal opened on Thursday, September 24, 2026, and will close on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

Candidates must be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, and must have scored a minimum of 150 in the 2026 UTME. Applicants who did not initially choose FUTO as their first-choice institution may also apply, provided they score at least 150 and change their institution to FUTO through JAMB CAPS. Candidates must also have at least five relevant O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings, and must meet the prescribed JAMB subject combination for their chosen programme.

The minimum UTME scores for the affected programmes are as follows:

Candidates who previously applied for the FUTO Post-UTME screening are required to pay an application fee of ₦18,000, while fresh applicants will pay ₦20,000. The screening will be based on verified JAMB scores and O’Level results uploaded to JAMB CAPS. Candidates must ensure that their details on CAPS match those entered on the FUTO application portal and must upload their O’Level results on or before October 8, 2026. Applications should be completed through https://portal.futo.edu.ng/#undergraduate. Candidates may also access the process via the FUTO website at https://www.futo.edu.ng by selecting “Prospective Students” and then “Undergraduate”. FUTO ASUU Announces Indigent Scholarship Award for 2026/2027 Session

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) Chapter, has announced the commencement of applications for its 2026/2027 Indigent Scholarship Award for eligible students of the university.

The scholarship is aimed at supporting students who are financially disadvantaged but maintain good academic performance. Applicants must be registered students of FUTO, classified as indigent, and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00 as at the Harmattan 2024/2025 academic session.

Interested students are required to submit an application letter of not more than two pages, stating their name, school, department, course of study, year of study, state of origin and reasons they should be considered for the award. The application must also include a photocopy of the current school identity card, a letter from the Head of Department confirming the applicant’s CGPA, and one recent passport photograph.

Completed applications should be submitted to the ASUU-FUTO Secretariat on or before Friday, 25 September 2026, by 3:00 pm. Shortlisted applicants will attend an interview scheduled for Tuesday, 29 September 2026, at 9:00 am at the ASUU-FUTO Secretariat. Students currently benefiting from another scholarship are not eligible to apply.

FUTO Medical Clearance Procedure for Graduating Students 2026

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has issued guidelines for graduating students completing their medical clearance at the university’s Medical Centre. The notice, dated 19 October 2026, was released by the Office of the SUG Director of Health and outlines the procedures students should follow based on their previous registration status at the centre.

Graduating students who have previously registered at the FUTO Medical Centre are directed to proceed from the Bursary to the Office of the Medical Director. According to the notice, these students are not required to visit the Records Unit as part of the process.

Students who have not previously registered at the Medical Centre should first visit the designated microfinance bank to make the required payment. After payment, they are to proceed to the Bursary to continue their medical clearance.

The SUG has urged all graduating students to follow the procedure applicable to them to avoid unnecessary delays. Students are also encouraged to share the information with fellow graduands who may need it as they complete their clearance requirements.

FUTO SUG Warns Students Against Visiting Otamiri River

The Student Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), has warned students to stay away from Otamiri River in the interest of their safety. The advisory, issued through the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Office of the SUG PRO/DOI, urges students to avoid activities that could put their lives at risk.

The warning particularly targets newly admitted students and prohibits visits to the river for swimming, playing or other recreational activities. According to the student leadership, the river presents potential dangers due to its unpredictable currents, depth and other associated risks.

Students have also been advised to avoid isolated areas around the river to reduce their exposure to possible dangers. The SUG emphasised that the advisory is intended to protect the lives and well-being of members of the university community.

The student leadership urged all students to take the warning seriously, especially those who are unfamiliar with their surroundings in Owerri. It concluded the advisory with the message: “Stay Safe. Stay Alert. Your Life Matters!”

FUTO Hostel Vacation Notice for SIWES and Final-Year Students

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has announced a two-week hostel accommodation arrangement for students undertaking the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and final-year students completing their academic activities.

Under the arrangement, 200/300-level SIWES students and final-year students currently residing in the university hostels are permitted to remain in the hostels from October 1 to October 14, 2026. The extension is intended to enable the affected students to complete their SIWES programme and final-year academic requirements.

The university advised Deans of Schools to inform the affected students and ensure compliance with the approved arrangement. Students are expected to vacate the hostels at the end of the two-week period.

FUTO stated that the hostels will be locked after October 14, 2026 to allow the university management to carry out repairs and maintenance work in preparation for the 2026/2027 academic session. Affected students are therefore advised to make the necessary arrangements before the deadline.
