Oando Energy Resources Tertiary Scholarship: Eligibility, Requirements and How to Apply
Oando Energy Resources Tertiary Scholarship: Eligibility, Requirements and How to Apply

The NEPL/OERNL Joint Venture, through Oando Energy Resources Nigeria Limited, provides a tertiary scholarship programme for eligible undergraduate students in Nigeria.

The scheme is intended to provide financial support to students who meet the stated academic and eligibility requirements. It includes opportunities for students from selected host and transit communities as well as eligible undergraduates from other parts of Nigeria.

For students considering the scholarship, the most important things to understand are who can apply, which documents are required, how the selection process works and where to submit an application.

About The Oando Energy Resources Scholarship

The Oando Energy Resources tertiary scholarship is part of the company’s broader corporate social responsibility activities. The programme supports undergraduate education and provides an opportunity for eligible students to receive financial assistance towards their studies.

There are two main categories under the scheme: the Host/Transit Communities Merit Award and the National Merit Award.

The requirements and application dates announced by the scholarship organisers can change from one application cycle to another. Applicants should therefore check the current application information before submitting their forms.

Scholarship Categories

Host/Transit Communities Merit Award

This category is intended for eligible students from Oando host or transit communities in:

  • Rivers State
  • Bayelsa State
  • Delta State
  • Imo State

Students applying under this category may need to provide additional evidence confirming their connection to the relevant community.

National Merit Award

The National Merit Award is intended for eligible undergraduate students from across Nigeria who fall outside the host and transit community category.

This means that students who are not from the specified host communities may still be considered under the national category, provided they meet the other requirements.

Who Is Eligible To Apply?

For the 2026/2027 scholarship cycle, applicants are required to:

  • Be registered as full-time undergraduate students in a recognised Nigerian tertiary institution.
  • Be in 100 Level at the time of application.
  • Meet any other requirements specified by the scholarship organisers for the current application cycle.

Being a 100-Level student is particularly important because students already in 200 Level or above are not eligible under the stated criteria for this application cycle.

Applicants should always read the requirements on the official application portal before submitting an application, as eligibility conditions may be updated for future scholarship cycles.

Who Cannot Apply?

The scholarship is not intended for everyone currently studying in a Nigerian tertiary institution. Under the stated requirements, the following applicants are not eligible:

  • Students in 200 Level or above.
  • Students already benefiting from another scholarship provided by a company or agency.
  • Dependants of staff members of Oando PLC or its subsidiaries.

If you fall into one of these categories, it is better to confirm your position from the current official guidelines before beginning an application.

Documents Required

Applicants may be required to provide scanned copies of documents that establish their identity, academic status and eligibility.

For the 2026/2027 application cycle, the listed documents include:

  • Recent passport photograph with a white background.
  • School identity card.
  • O’Level result.
  • Admission letter.
  • Birth certificate.
  • Proof of Local Government Area of origin.
  • Community identification letter, where applicable to host community applicants.
  • JAMB result.
  • Other supporting documents requested during the application.

Before uploading any document, applicants should make sure that the information is clear and readable. It is also important to use documents belonging to the applicant and to ensure that names and other personal details are consistent across the documents where applicable.

The exact document requirements should be checked again when the scholarship opens for a new application cycle.

How The Selection Process Works

The scholarship selection process includes an aptitude test for shortlisted applicants.

Candidates who are shortlisted are expected to participate in an online aptitude test. For the 2026/2027 cycle, applicants are required to obtain a minimum score of 50% to qualify for the next stage.

Passing the stated test requirement does not necessarily mean that every applicant will receive the scholarship. Candidates who successfully progress through the selection process may be contacted for subsequent stages.

Applicants should therefore monitor the contact details and communication channels they provide during registration.

How To Apply For The Oando Energy Resources Scholarship

Applications are submitted online through the designated scholarship application portal.

For the 2026/2027 application cycle, applications opened on 3 March 2026 and closed on 1 April 2026.

Applicants should use the official application channel provided by the scholarship organisers rather than relying on links shared through unofficial social media pages or third-party websites.

Official application portal: Oando Energy Resources Scholarship Application Portal

For a future application cycle, EducationNGR will update the application year, dates and official application link when the new information is announced.

Application Dates

The application period is one of the details that can change each year.

For the 2026/2027 academic session, the announced dates were:

  • Application Opens: 3 March 2026
  • Application Closes: 1 April 2026

Applicants should not assume that these dates will remain the same in another year. When a new application cycle is announced, check the latest dates before starting your application.

What Applicants Should Know Before Applying

A scholarship application is not simply about filling in an online form. Small mistakes can create problems, particularly when an application requires several supporting documents.

Before applying, it is useful to:

  1. Confirm your eligibility first. Make sure your level of study, institution and other circumstances meet the current requirements.
  2. Prepare your documents early. Do not wait until the closing day to start looking for your admission letter, JAMB result or other documents.
  3. Check your personal information. Names, dates and other details should be entered carefully.
  4. Use an active email address and phone number. These may be used to communicate with shortlisted candidates.
  5. Keep your application details. Save any confirmation message or reference information provided after submission.
  6. Use the official application portal. Be cautious of individuals asking for money or personal information in exchange for a scholarship application.
  7. Apply before the deadline. An applicant who waits until the final hours may encounter avoidable internet, document-upload or website problems.

Is The Oando Scholarship Open Every Year?

The scholarship is presented through individual application cycles, so students should not assume that a new application will automatically open on the same date every year.

If you are interested in the scholarship but the current application period has closed, you can check EducationNGR and the official scholarship channel for information about a future application cycle.

The eligibility requirements, application dates, documents and application link should be confirmed again whenever a new cycle is announced.
