History of the Institution
Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe was founded in 1976 as a teacher-training institution established by the Anambra State Government to address the growing demand for qualified teachers and educational manpower in Nigeria. The institution began under the name College of Education, Nsugbe before later adopting the name of Prince Abyssinia Akweke Nwafor Orizu.
Prince Nwafor Orizu was a prominent Nigerian nationalist, education advocate, Senate President, and Acting President of Nigeria during the First Republic. The college was named after him in recognition of his contributions to education and national development.
