The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is one of Nigeria’s leading universities of technology. It was established in 1981 by the Federal Government of Nigeria as part of a national initiative to create specialized universities focused on science and technology education.
FUTA was founded to promote technological advancement, research, and innovation while producing skilled professionals in engineering, science, and technology-related fields. The university began academic activities in 1982 with a small number of programmes and has since expanded significantly.

FUTA Promotes 2 New Professors and 4 Readers
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has promoted six members of its academic staff to the ranks of Professor and Reader in recognition of their contributions to teaching, research and academic development.
Two academics were elevated to the rank of Professor. They are Prof. John Isa of the School of Infrastructure, Mineral and Manufacturing Engineering (SIMME) and Prof. A. A. Fayetole of the School of Logistics and Innovation Technology (SLIT).
Four other members of staff were promoted to the rank of Reader. They are Dr. S. A. Malomo of the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT), Dr. A. N. Abasilim of SLIT, Dr. H. E. Adesiji of the School of Physical Sciences (SPS), and Dr. M. K. Duromola of SPS.
According to the university, the promotions take effect from 1 October 2025, following administrative approval conveyed by the Registrar. FUTA congratulated the newly promoted academics on their achievements and contributions to the institution.
