PLASU Notice Board
PLASU ASUU Suspends One-Month Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Plateau State University (PLASU) Branch, has suspended the one-month strike action declared on 26 August 2026. The decision was reached at an emergency congress meeting held on 15 September 2026 in Jos, following discussions between the State Government and the Union.
The suspension followed an agreement on the Union’s six-point demands, which include commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme, full implementation of the 2025 FGN/ASUU agreement and payment of arrears from January 2026, provision of secure staff quarters, construction of trenches around the university perimeter fence, an end to the alleged intimidation of Union leaders, and payment of 22 months’ arrears of the 25%/35% wage award.
Following a review of the agreement, PLASU ASUU resolved to suspend the strike from 12:00 midnight on 16 September 2026. Union members have consequently been directed to resume academic activities. The branch also thanked the public for their understanding and support during the industrial action.
PLASU SUG Issues Security Advisory to Students Ahead of Resumption
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Plateau State University (PLASU) has issued a security advisory to students ahead of their return to campus. The SUG President urged students to make personal safety a priority as they prepare to resume academic activities.
The advisory follows security concerns along some of the roads linking to the university. Students returning to campus have been advised to avoid late-night journeys and, where possible, plan their trips so they arrive at their destination while it is still daylight.
Students were also encouraged to remain alert, use safer routes, keep family members or trusted persons informed about their movements and avoid unnecessary stops while travelling. The SUG stressed that students’ safety and welfare remain a priority.
The union wished all students safe journeys and urged them to take the security advice seriously as they make their way back to campus.
