Fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), FPTB is committed to producing skilled, entrepreneurial, and morally grounded graduates who contribute to Nigeria’s technological and economic advancement. The current Rector is Alh. Sani Usman.

History of the Institution

Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi began its journey in May 1979, with full academic activities commencing on 22nd November 1979. At inception, the polytechnic enrolled 245 students across eleven departments, with a dedicated staff strength of 138. The founding Rector was Engr. M.O. Anyiam, and the institution’s first Governing Council was appointed in February 1981, chaired by Alhaji Y.A. Olatunji.

In its early years, the polytechnic operated from rented buildings along Yandoka and Ran Roads in Bauchi. The Bauchi State Government also provided part of the Bauchi Teachers College for student use, including hostels, a cafeteria, lecture rooms, and a library. In 1980, the permanent site at Gwallameji Village — approximately 8km southwest of Bauchi Township — was acquired, covering about 750 hectares. By the 1982/83 academic session, all polytechnic units had relocated to this permanent campus, which was developed as a modern, self-contained institution with academic, residential, and recreational facilities.

The School of Agricultural Technology was established in August 2012, and the institution now runs six schools with a broad range of programmes at ND, HND, and Postgraduate Diploma levels. FPTB also maintains an academic affiliation with Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, for degree-affiliated programmes.
