History of the Institution

The Federal Polytechnic, Offa came into existence in 1992 following a presidential pronouncement made at the Palace of His Royal Highness, the Olofa of Offa, late Oba Mustapha Olawoore Olanipekun Ariwajoye II, by then Military President Ibrahim Babangida during a state visit in 1991. A Local Task Force was subsequently constituted by the Olofa under the chairmanship of Alhaji Tiamiyu Olatinwo, with six other eminent Offa indigenes and Chief Ayotunde Raji as Secretary, to coordinate the take-off of the institution.

The pioneer Rector, Engr. (Mrs.) Taiwo Adeife Osemeikhian, administered the polytechnic from February 1992 to the year 2000, under the supervision of a Federal Task Force led by the Director of Science and Technology, Federal Ministry of Education. Dr. Razaq Bello succeeded her as Rector from 2000 to 2006, followed by Dr. Mufutau Olatinwo, who served as Acting Rector before becoming the third substantive Rector from 2008.
