Lagos State University popularly known as LASU is a state-owned public university located in Ojo, Lagos State, South-West Nigeria. Established in 1983 by the enabling law of Lagos State during the administration of Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, the first Executive Governor of Lagos State, LASU was founded with the vision of pursuing the advancement of learning and establishing academic excellence. With a student population of over 35,000 and academic programmes spanning 14 faculties and multiple schools, LASU is the largest state university in Nigeria and one of the most sought-after institutions in the country, receiving over 79,000 UTME applications in 2025 alone. The university has been ranked as the 2nd best university in Nigeria and the best young university in Nigeria by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and is the only state university included in the THE rankings for Nigeria. History of the Institution
The idea of establishing a university for Lagos State was conceived as part of the effort to expand access to higher education and reverse the low rate of indigenous university attendance in Lagos. In 1982, a 12-man technical committee headed by Dr. Abisogun Leigh recommended the establishment of a multi-campus, non-residential university to be namedLagos State University (LASU). The committee recommended that the main campus at Ojo should accommodate the Faculties of Humanities, Sciences, Education, Business Studies, and Law, while capital-intensive faculties such as Agriculture, Engineering, and Environmental Studies would be established later at other campuses.
Following the committee’s recommendation, a firm decision was taken in early 1983 to establish the university. The LASU Implementation Committee was inaugurated under the chairmanship of Governor Jakande, and its inaugural meeting was held on Monday, 17th March 1983. In October 1983, the government turned the seed of the Lagos State University at the site of the present Works and Services Department. University staff relocated from the Old Secretariat at Ikeja to the main campus at Ojo on Monday, 19th December 1983.
LASU began its academic operations with three pioneer faculties: Commerce and Business Administration (later renamed Business and Social Studies), Law, and Medicine. The faculties of Arts, Education, Engineering, Science, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Communication, and the School of Transport were added in subsequent years.
The university operates three major campuses: the Main Campus at Ojo — the seat of central administration — which houses most humanities, law, sciences, management, education, and social science faculties; the Ikeja Campus, home to the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM); and the Epe Campus, which accommodates the Faculty of Engineering, School of Agriculture, Institute for Organic Agriculture and Green Economy, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, and pre-degree programmes. The Epe Campus is fully residential and was developed from military barracks released during the administration of then Military Governor Olusegun Obasanjo.
Among its notable achievements, LASU was ranked among the top 600 universities in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2020 and ranked as the second best university in Nigeria in 2021. On 23rd June 2021, it emerged as the best young university in Nigeria. In 2023, LASU offered ₦10 million to its best graduating student. The university launched LASU Radio 95.7 FM in 2016, with the catchphrase Lively and Solidly Unique. It was also recognised as the best state university in Nigeria by the AD Scientific Index 2024. The Centre of Excellence for Sargassum Research (CESAR) is one of LASU’s flagship research initiatives.

LASU Sandwich Degree Entrance Examination and Screening 2026
Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has scheduled the first-batch entrance examination and screening for its Sandwich Degree Programme for Saturday, 24 October 2026. The exercise is for the 2026 modular year and will be conducted by the Directorate of Sandwich Degree Programme. The entrance examination and screening details are as follows:

LASU 2026/2027 Direct Entry Admission Screening Form is Out
Lagos State University (LASU) has invited suitably qualified candidates to participate in its 2026/2027 Direct Entry (DE) Admission Screening Exercise. The online screening is mandatory for candidates seeking admission into LASU through Direct Entry for the academic session. Candidates must have obtained the JAMB Direct Entry form and selected Lagos State University as their first-choice institution. LASU Foundation (JUPEB) candidates are also eligible, while only the LASU Diploma is accepted for Direct Entry, except for NCE holders applying for programmes in the Faculty of Education.
Eligible candidates can begin the process by visiting the LASU official website and navigating to Student → New Applicants → UTME/DE Screening, or directly accessing the LASU Admission Screening Portal. Applicants are required to log in with their DE registration number and surname, make the admission screening payment, and complete the online self-screening form. They must provide their personal information, select their course, indicate the number of O’Level sittings and upload the required O’Level details. Candidates are also required to upload their O’Level results on JAMB CAPS before the screening exercise closes.
Applicants must have at least five relevant O’Level credit passes in not more than two sittings, although specific programmes may have additional requirements. Candidates applying for Engineering programmes with two O’Level sittings must have six relevant credits, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language, while Aeronautic and Astronautic Engineering requires a credit in Further Mathematics. English Language is compulsory for all LASU programmes. Candidates should also note that examinations taken after July 2026 will not be accepted. Lagos State indigenes who have already completed the university’s Independent Indigeneship Verification Committee (IIVC) process will have their claims validated automatically.
The LASU 2026/2027 Direct Entry screening registration and payment period runs from 12 September to 26 September 2026 at 12 midnight. Candidates should carefully review and certify their information before submitting the screening form because the screening decision will be based on the information supplied. After completing the process, applicants can download their screening report from the screening homepage. Direct Entry candidates are also expected to submit copies of their Admission Screening Report and Diploma/NCE result notification at the Admission Annex/Liaison Office, Room 7, Administrative Block II. School Fees
LASU operates a dual-stream fee structure for fresh (100-level) undergraduate students: Stream 1 students (regular degree without entrepreneurship training) and Stream 2 students (regular degree with entrepreneurship training). Stream 2 fees are higher due to the additional entrepreneurship skills component.
The last known school fees for LASU fresh undergraduate students for the 2024/2025 academic session are as follows:
- Stream 1 (Regular without entrepreneurship): approximately ₦57,048 — ₦90,000 tuition, plus ₦30,000 acceptance fee and ₦30,000 medical fee, making a total of approximately ₦117,048 — ₦150,000 for fresh students.
- Stream 2 (Regular with entrepreneurship): approximately ₦150,000 tuition, plus ₦30,000 acceptance fee and ₦30,000 medical fee, making a total of approximately ₦210,000 for fresh students.
- Returning students pay a significantly reduced tuition of approximately ₦25,000 per session.

Cut-off Mark

LASU Hostel Resumption Date 2026/2027
The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has approved the commencement of students’ resumption into the university’s halls of residence for the 2026/2027 academic session.
According to the university, students who have applied for and secured bed space allocations in the various halls of residence, including Adenike Boyo Hostel, are expected to begin resuming on Sunday, 1 November 2026, from 9:00 a.m.
All affected new and returning students are required to report to their respective hostels with the following documents for verification and documentation:
- Evidence of payment of the approved hostel accommodation fee.
- Official bed space allocation slip.
- One recent passport-sized photograph.

Lagos State University (LASU) has released the approved academic calendar for the 2026/2027 academic session following its approval by the University Senate. LASU 2026/2027 Matriculation List for Full-Time Undergraduates
Lagos State University (LASU) has released the matriculation list for the first batch of more than 7,500 full-time undergraduate students for the 2026/2027 academic session. The list covers students who have completed their LACACA operations to 100 per cent. Affected students are required to check their matriculation numbers and obtain their admission clearance certificates.
Students must print four copies of their Admissions Clearance Certificate from the LACACA operations portal. One copy each should be submitted to the Admissions Office, Faculty Office and Departmental Office, while the fourth copy should be retained for personal records.
To check their matriculation numbers, students should visit the official LASU website, navigate to the STUDENT tab and click on CHECK MATRIC NUMBER. They should enter their JAMB registration number and click SUBMIT to view their assigned matriculation number.
The university has also stated that information on tuition fees and other related charges for the 2026/2027 academic session will be released soon. Affected students are advised to complete the required clearance procedures and regularly visit the university’s official website for further announcements.
LASU Reopens Indigeneship Verification Portal for JUPEB and Direct Entry Candidates 2026/2027
Lagos State University (LASU) has reopened its 2026/2027 Independent Indigeneship Verification Exercise (IIVE) portal for eligible JUPEB and other Direct Entry candidates of Lagos State origin who have not previously participated in the exercise. The special verification window, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, runs from Monday, 12 October, to Friday, 16 October 2026.
The exercise is exclusively for JUPEB 2026 graduates and other Direct Entry candidates who are indigenes of Lagos State and selected LASU as their first-choice institution during the 2026 JAMB registration. Physical verification will take place at the New TETFund Building, Faculty of Arts, covering all divisions of Lagos State.
Eligible candidates are required to register and make payments through the university’s authorised online payment channel. They must attend the physical screening with their original documents, including their JAMB Direct Entry slip, evidence of Lagos State indigeneship, payment receipt and registration confirmation. Successful candidates will receive an LASU Indigeneship Clearance Certificate.
LASU has emphasised that the verification exercise is a mandatory pre-admission requirement for eligible candidates of Lagos State origin. However, obtaining the clearance certificate does not guarantee admission; it is required before an admission offer can be processed. Candidates are advised to complete the process before the Friday, 16 October 2026 deadline and avoid payments to individuals, agents or unauthorised accounts.
LASU Extends Direct Entry Screening Exercise for 2026/2027
Lagos State University (LASU) has extended its online admission screening exercise for the 2026/2027 academic session for Direct Entry (DE) candidates, including students of the LASU School of Basic and Advanced Studies enrolled in the JUPEB programme.
According to the university, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo, approved the extension to give candidates who have yet to complete their screening additional time to do so.
The screening exercise will now close at 12:00 midnight on Sunday, 11 October 2026. All affected candidates are advised to complete their screening before the deadline.
LASU has stated that there will be no further extension. Direct Entry applicants and eligible JUPEB students who have not completed the process should take advantage of the extended deadline to finalise their screening.
