Mountain Top University,
Mountain Top University – MTU

Mountain Top University  widely known as MTU is a private Christian university located beside MFM Prayer City, Kilometre 12, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ibafo, Ogun State, South-West Nigeria. Founded by Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), MTU was established in 2015 as a faith-based private university with a strong emphasis on academic excellence and spiritual development. The university is fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and is particularly reputed for its Music department — widely regarded as the best music programme across all universities in Nigeria. MTU has been ranked No. 1 in Nigeria for Quality Education by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) rankings in 2024, and is ranked 80th out of 157 universities in Nigeria, 369th in Africa, and 7,871st globally by EduRank. It currently has an enrolment of approximately 2,000 — 4,500 students. The university is fully residential — hostel accommodation is compulsory for all students. MTU offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across two colleges and a Postgraduate School, and awards the DK Olukoya MTU Foundation Scholarship and the MTU Financial Aid Programme to deserving students.

History of the Institution

Mountain Top University is founded based on the divine mandate received by its founder, Dr D.K. Olukoya. The university was established in 2015 and commenced academic activities that same year. Its establishment was a natural extension of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, which Dr. Olukoya had also founded — a Christian missionary organisation whose vision commenced in August but did not formally begin until July 1989, starting with 24 members and growing to millions of worshippers worldwide, running missionary activities in over 40 nations across Africa, Europe, America, and Asia.

MTU was established with a mandate to transform and rejuvenate the socio-economic and political ethos of Nigeria by producing top-rate, morally sound graduates of distinction who will be globally competitive and have outstanding impact on Nigerian society and global development. The university is reputed for its music department — regarded as the best across all universities in Nigeria — and is known for its strictness in maintaining Christian standards in accordance with university establishment regulations.

From its founding in 2015, MTU has grown steadily — expanding from its two pioneer colleges to a broader academic offering including Allied Health Sciences and postgraduate studies. In 2024, MTU’s NUC accreditation reviews confirmed Full Accreditation for its Music programme (with a score of 94.40%) and for its Food Science and Technology programme (88.80%). The university was also ranked No. 1 in Nigeria for Quality Education by the UN SDG rankings in 2024 — a remarkable achievement for a relatively young institution. MTU has introduced an innovation hub and continues to expand its academic and research infrastructure on its serene campus beside the MFM Prayer City.

Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando - LASCON
Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando – LASCON

Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando  widely known as LASCON  is a state government-owned College of Nursing located within the Old Alimosho General Hospital Complex, Igando, Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State, South-West Nigeria . The college traces its origins to 1965 when it was initially called the Lagos State School of Nursing Complex and located on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi . In March 2013, the State Government relocated the school to its present site in Igando . The enabling law for the transition into a College of Nursing status was signed into law on February 8, 2018, by the immediate past Governor and was gazetted in August of the same year .

LASCON is a Centre of Excellence for the education of professional Nurses, awarding the Registered Nurse (RN) and Registered Midwife (RM) qualifications, which are fully accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) — the body regulating the practice and education of Professional Nurses in Nigeria . The college is now a recognised tertiary institution under the supervision of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education under the State Ministry of Education, enjoying all recognition and privileges assigned to Lagos State Tertiary Institutions . The current Provost is Dr. Ayodeji Ogunmuyiwa . Leveraging the T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda of the present administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with Education and Health taking centre stage, the College has invited the National Board on Technical Education (NBTE) to carry out a Resource Verification Exercise with the view to granting the College approval to kick off National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes .

History of the Institution

The Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando, was originally established in 1965 as the Lagos State School of Nursing Complex and was located on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi . For decades, the institution served as the primary training ground for professional nurses in Lagos State. In March 2013, the State Government made the strategic decision to relocate the School to its present site in Igando, within the Old Alimosho General Hospital Complex, to provide a larger, more conducive environment for learning and expansion .

The most significant milestone in the institution’s history came on February 8, 2018, when the enabling law for its transition into a College of Nursing status was signed into law by the immediate past Governor, and the law was gazetted in August of the same year . This elevation to a College of Nursing status brought LASCON into the league of Tertiary Institutions under the supervision of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education under the State Ministry of Education, granting it all the recognition and privileges assigned to Lagos State Tertiary Institutions .

Since achieving College status, LASCON has continued to evolve. At its last count, the College has graduated 342 Students including Midwives across 5 sets, with an aggregate score of 100% in the Council’s final examination . The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has once again approved and increased the College’s admission quota . The College is also developing relationships with other Tertiary Institutions to bring degree programmes nearer the people of Lagos State, a collaboration that is expected to reduce travel time and encourage Lagos State Indigenes (especially Nurses) to further their education .

IMOPOLY Omuma
Imo State Polytechnic, Omuma – IMOPOLY

Imo State Polytechnic (IMOPOLY) is a state government-owned polytechnic located in Umuagwo, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, Imo State, Nigeria . Established in 1978 as the Michael Okpara College of Agriculture, Umuagwo, it was upgraded to a polytechnic and renamed Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo in 2007 . The institution is fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and offers National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes across five schools: Engineering Technology, Business and Management Technology, Science Technology, Environmental Design and Technology, and Agriculture . The polytechnic has a rich history of producing skilled graduates who thrive in industries and entrepreneurial ventures within and outside Nigeria .

⚠️ Important Recent Development: In 2025, Governor Hope Uzodinma initiated the merger and relocation of Imo State Polytechnic’s three campuses (Umuagwo, Orlu, and Mbano) to Omuma in Oru East LGA . The Non-Academic Staff Union has applauded this move, noting that it enhances administrative cohesion and facilitates institutional development . Prospective students should verify the current campus location before applying.

History of the Institution

The history of Imo State Polytechnic dates back to 1978, when it was established as the Michael Okpara College of Agriculture, Umuagwo. The institution operated as a specialized agricultural college for nearly three decades before being upgraded to polytechnic status.

In 2007, the Imo State Government officially elevated the institution to a polytechnic, renaming it Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo . This upgrade expanded the institution’s mandate from purely agricultural education to include engineering, business, science, environmental design, and technology programmes.

A significant milestone occurred during Governor Rochas Okorocha’s administration when an MOU was signed with Miami-Dade University in Florida, USA to establish a hospitality and tourism management programme at the polytechnic . The programme was designed to train thousands of students with guaranteed employment in the hospitality industry, supporting the state’s development of three five-star hotels in Owerri, Orlu, and Okigwe .

In 2025, a major restructuring took place under Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration. The governor merged the three campuses of the institution (Umuagwo, Orlu, and Mbano) and relocated them to Omuma in Oru East Local Government Area . This move, according to the Non-Academic Staff Union, aims to enhance administrative cohesion and put to rest challenges facing course accreditation . However, the relocation has generated controversy, with some community leaders expressing concern about the concentration of development in Omuma .

Location

Main Campus (Post-2025 Relocation):
Imo State Polytechnic
Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area
Imo State, Nigeria

Former Campus (Historical Reference):

Note: While the institution historically operated from Umuagwo, official sources in 2025 confirm the relocation to Omuma . The institution’s website (imopoly.edu.ng) remains the authoritative source for current campus location.

Dominican University Ibadan - DUI
Dominican University, Ibadan – DUI

Dominican University, Ibadan  widely known as DUI  is a private Catholic university located in Samonda, Ibadan, Oyo State, South-West Nigeria. It holds the remarkable distinction of being the first university established by the Order of Preachers (Dominican Order) on the African continent. The university was established on the 800th anniversary of the foundation of the Dominican Order — an order with more than 800 years of global university education heritage, having counted the philosopher-scientists Albert the Great and Thomas Aquinas among its most illustrious members. Founded and promoted by the Dominican Order in Nigeria, DUI is fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and offers undergraduate programmes across four faculties, alongside postgraduate programmes through its Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, a Conversion Programme for HND/BSc holders, and the Aquinas Faculty of Theology. With its philosophy of developing every student’s potential to the fullest, DUI has positioned itself as one of the most unique and intellectually rigorous private universities in Nigeria.

History of the Institution

The story of Dominican University, Ibadan is inseparable from the 800-year history of the Order of Preachers worldwide. The Order was founded in 1216 by Spanish priest Dominic de Guzman (Saint Dominic) with the approval of Pope Innocent III. For over eight centuries, the Order has been actively involved in university education, with illustrious Dominicans such as Albert the Great and his student Thomas Aquinas serving as pioneering intellectuals in the great medieval universities of Paris, Bologna, Oxford, and Cologne.

In 1951, with a mandate from the Holy See during the pontificate of Pope Pius XII, three members of the Order of Preachers — Fathers Edward Lawton, Michael Dempsey, and Arthur Kinsella — arrived in Lagos, Nigeria from Chicago, Illinois, to found the Dominican presence in Nigeria. Their initial mission was to establish and administer the Catholic Prefecture in Sokoto, but upon arrival they were asked by Archbishop Leo Taylor of Lagos to take charge of St. Patrick’s Church in Yaba, Lagos (later renamed St. Dominic’s). While in Lagos, the Dominicans established a Thomistic Institute introducing young Nigerians to the thought of Thomas Aquinas — the intellectual forerunner of what would become Dominican University.

In 1968, the Dominicans chose Ibadan as the site for the formation of Nigerian and Ghanaian candidates for the Order. Ibadan’s reputation as a leading intellectual and cultural centre in West Africa made it an ideal location. From 1999, the Dominican Institute in Ibadan — operating on the same campus that would later become the university — ran a Philosophy degree programme fully accredited by the NUC for 23 years. This gave the university a head start: it emerged from a position of strength, with excellent existing facilities, highly experienced human resources, and an already robust academic framework.

Dominican University, Ibadan was formally established on the 800th anniversary of the founding of the Dominican Order, making the founding date not only an institutional milestone but a deeply symbolic moment in the history of Catholic higher education in Africa. DUI continues rolling admissions throughout each academic cycle and offers scholarships to deserving students. Its scholarship programme includes opportunities advertised through the Postgraduate School for M.A. Philosophy students.

The site had previously housed the Federal Government Teachers’ Training College (TTC), Eha-Amufu.

Following the creation of Enugu State in 1991, the institution became part of the Enugu State educational system until it was officially taken over by the Federal Government in April 1993, with financial effect from January 1994. Through Federal Decrees No. 4 of 1986, No. 34 of 1993, and No. 6 of 1993, the institution became the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu — the 20th Federal College of Education in Nigeria.
