Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, is a federal university of technology in Nigeria. The institution was established in 1980 as the Federal University of Technology, Bauchi (FUTB) and later renamed Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in honour of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.

The university was created to promote science, engineering, and technological education in Nigeria. Academic programmes began in 1982, initially under the School of Science and Science Education, and later expanded to include faculties such as engineering, agriculture, and environmental technology.

ATBU has grown into one of Nigeria’s leading universities in science and technology education, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across several specialized faculties.

Admission Requirements

Undergraduate Admission

Candidates must sit for the UTME conducted by JAMB.
Applicants must obtain five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics and other relevant subjects for their course.
Candidates must meet the required UTME score for their programme.
Direct Entry candidates with qualifications such as IJMB, ND, or NCE may apply for admission.

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) has released the school fees schedule for fresh and returning undergraduate students for the 2026/2027 academic session. The fees vary according to students’ level, programme and status.

ATBU Hostel Clearance 2026

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has released the hostel clearance requirements for students seeking accommodation for the 2026 academic session. Students are required to complete the clearance process after booking and paying for their allocated accommodation.

The clearance requirements include converting the hostel Remita payment slip to an official receipt, preparing an official file jacket and submitting one passport photograph. Students must also provide a photocopy of their admission letter and one copy of the downloaded Hostel Policy document.

ATBU Physical Screening Exercise 2026/2027

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has announced the physical screening exercise for prospective candidates who applied for admission and successfully completed the online screening process for the 2026/2027 academic session. Invited candidates are expected to check and print their physical screening invitations through the ATBU screening portal from Thursday, 8 October to Thursday, 22 October 2026.

Candidates invited for the exercise are required to attend with the original and photocopies of their birth certificate, indigene certificate, academic credentials and JAMB result slip. They should also bring two recent full-faced passport photographs, two file jackets and a signed Acknowledgment/Screening Form along with the screening invitation.
