History of the Institution
Edo State University was established by the Edo State University Iyamho Law in 2014 and later amended in 2015 and 2016. It received official recognition and operating licence from the National Universities Commission on 23 March 2016 as the 41st state-owned university and the 142nd university in Nigeria.
The university was founded by the Edo State Government to meet increasing demand for quality tertiary education and to drive human capital development in Edo State and Nigeria. It has since developed modern lecture halls, laboratories, hostels, ICT systems, and professional faculties.
