History of the Institution
The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) is one of Nigeria’s leading universities of technology. It was established in 1980 by the Federal Government of Nigeria with the aim of promoting technological education and advancing research in science, engineering, and innovation.
FUTO was created as part of a national policy to develop universities focused on science and technology to support Nigeria’s industrial and technological development. The university began academic activities in 1981 with a small number of students and programmes and has since grown into a major centre for technological education in Nigeria.
Today, FUTO offers numerous undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across several schools including engineering, agriculture, health technology, environmental sciences, and information technology.

Undergraduate Admission

Candidates must sit for the UTME conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Applicants must possess at least five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics and other relevant subjects.

Candidates must choose Federal University of Technology Owerri as their first-choice institution during UTME registration.
