Established in 1981, the institution is one of Nigeria’s recognised Federal Colleges of Education dedicated to training qualified teachers for the country’s education sector. The college offers National Certificate in Education (NCE), Degree, Sandwich, Part-Time, and Professional programmes across various schools and departments. History of the Institution
Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu was established on 21st February 1981 by the then Anambra State Government under the administration of Chief Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo. The institution was created through the “College of Education, Eha-Amufu Law 1982,” which was deemed to have taken effect from February 1981.
Initially, the college operated temporarily from offices around the former Anambra Television (ATV) complex at Independence Layout, Enugu, before moving permanently to its present site in Eha-Amufu later in 1981. The site had previously housed the Federal Government Teachers’ Training College (TTC), Eha-Amufu.
Following the creation of Enugu State in 1991, the institution became part of the Enugu State educational system until it was officially taken over by the Federal Government in April 1993, with financial effect from January 1994. Through Federal Decrees No. 4 of 1986, No. 34 of 1993, and No. 6 of 1993, the institution became the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu — the 20th Federal College of Education in Nigeria.
Since its establishment, the college has expanded academically and infrastructurally, developing into one of the leading teacher-training institutions in South-East Nigeria. It offers programmes in Arts, Sciences, Vocational Education, Languages, Technical Education, and Degree Education in affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
