Edo State College of Education, Igueben  widely known as EDOCOE or Edo State College of Education  is a state government-owned College of Education located in Igueben, Igueben Local Government Area, Edo State, South-South Nigeria . Established in 1980 by the Governor of the defunct Bendel State, Professor Ambrose Folorunsho Alli . The college was closed down during the military government era in 1984 but was reopened in 2006 under the administration of Chief (Dr.) Lucky Igbinedion, the then Governor of Edo State . In 2020, the government of Edo State transformed the individual Colleges of Education in the state into one central college called Edo State College of Education (EdoCOE). The College of Education, Igueben was made the main campus of the state college, with additional facilities in Abudu and Afuze . The college is funded and managed by the Edo State Government through the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). EDOCOE offers Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) programmes . The current Acting Registrar is Mr. Omonzejele Emmanuel . The college was established under the enabling instrument known as the Edo State College of Education (EdoCOE) Law, 2020 .

History of the Institution

The College of Education, Igueben, was established in 1980 by Professor Ambrose Folorunsho Alli, the then Governor of the defunct Bendel State . The institution was established with the goal of training educators in Nigeria, and graduates are awarded the National Certificate in Education (NCE) .

The college faced challenges and was closed down during the military government era in 1984. It remained closed for over two decades until 2006, when it was reopened under the administration of Chief (Dr.) Lucky Igbinedion, the then Governor of Edo State .

In a major restructuring in 2020, the Edo State government, under Governor Mr. Godwin Obaseki, transformed the individual Colleges of Education in the state (including College of Education Ekiadolor and College of Education Abudu) into one central college called the Edo State College of Education. The College of Education, Igueben was made a campus of the state college . The college now operates a multi-campus structure with facilities in Igueben, Abudu, and Afuze, with the college’s administrative headquarters located at Igueben, Edo State .

The college was formally established under the Edo State College of Education (EdoCOE) Law, 2020 .

NCE Programme Admission 

  • Candidates must have sat for the 2025/2026 JAMB Examination

  • Minimum JAMB UTME cut-off mark: 100 and above

  • Candidates who did not choose the college can change their institution to Edo State College of Education as their first choice and upload their SSCE results into the JAMB portal at any CBT Centre

  • Must have credit passes in Five (5) subjects, including English Language and Mathematics

  • O’Level credits accepted from WAEC, NECO, NABTEB (or approved equivalents), at not more than two sittings
