Federal College of Education, Obudu commonly known as FCE Obudu or FCEOBUDU is a Federal Government-owned College of Education located in Obudu, Cross River State, South-South Nigeria. The institution was established on 30th November 1982 by the Federal Government under the administration of President Shehu Shagari. Academic activities commenced in January 1983 with an initial student population of about 140 students. The college operates under the supervision of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and offers the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) alongside Degree programmes in affiliation with the University of Calabar (UNICAL). It also runs several academic schools including Sciences, Arts, Social Sciences, Vocational Education, and Education Foundations.
History of the Institution
Federal College of Education, Obudu was established on 30th November 1982 as a regular College of Education by the Federal Government of Nigeria during the administration of President Shehu Shagari. The institution began academic operations on 10th January 1983, starting with a small population of students and staff.
At inception, the college operated from a temporary site within Government Secondary School, Obudu before developing into a full campus structure. Over time, it expanded to include a second campus at Bebi in Obanliku Local Government Area, in addition to its main campus in Obudu.
Initially, the institution was affiliated with the University of Calabar for academic programmes. However, following Federal Government reforms under the Decree No. 4 of 1986, it gained full autonomous status along with other Federal Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
Since then, the institution has grown steadily in student population, academic programmes, and infrastructure, becoming one of the recognised Federal Colleges of Education in the South-South region of Nigeria.
