FCE Zuba
FCT College of Education, Zuba – FCE Zuba

FCT College of Education, Zuba  widely known as FCT COE Zuba or COE Zuba  is a Federal Government-owned College of Education located in Zuba, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, North-Central Nigeria . Established in 1986 as a teachers’ college, it was upgraded to a College of Education in 1996 following a committee’s recommendation due to increased population and enrollment in the FCT . The college experienced a temporary closure in 2000 but was reopened in 2001, and it subsequently became a federal institution under President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan . The college is funded and managed by the FCT Administration through the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). FCT COE Zuba offers NCE programmes, Degree programmes in affiliation with partner universities (commonly the University of Abuja), and Sandwich programmes. The current Provost is Dr. Sule Mundi . The college’s vision is to be a center of excellence in teacher education, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of educators, leaders, and changemakers .

History of the Institution

The FCT College of Education, Zuba traces its origins to 1986 when it was established as a teachers’ college . The institution was originally known as the Teachers College, Zuba. In 1996, the influx of people into the Federal Capital Territory and an increase in enrollment in schools compelled the then Minister to establish a committee to determine the modalities for the creation of a college of education from the defunct Teachers College, Zuba . This led to the college’s upgrade to a College of Education.

However, the college faced challenges and was temporarily closed in 2000. It was reopened in 2001 and subsequently became a federal institution under the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan .

In recent years, the college has demonstrated significant growth. At its combined 3rd convocation ceremony, the college graduated 6,068 students — comprising 4,625 NCE regular and 1,443 NCE part-time graduands . The college has also been actively involved in teacher retraining, having trained 5,320 primary school teachers in the FCT through various retraining courses between 2023 and 2025 in collaboration with the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) .

As of October 2025, the college matriculated 318 new students into its NCE Part-Time Programme for the 2024/2025 academic session .
