History of the Institution

COOU was established in 2000 by the Anambra State Government under Law No. 13. It began as a two-campus institution using facilities inherited from former state institutions. In 2006, it transitioned into a conventional university structure and became popularly known as Anambra State University (ANSU). Later, the institution was renamed Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in honour of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

COOU Introduces “Study, Work And Earn” Initiative For Students

The management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has announced plans to integrate students into a new “Study, Work and Earn” initiative through its Business Ventures Committee (BVC).

EducationNGR gathered that the programme aims to support students who engage in small-scale trading or other activities to fund their education. According to the university, many students currently resort to hawking or informal work without proper structure, direction, or opportunities for long-term growth.

Following a series of engagements with students, the committee developed structured opportunities that allow students to earn income while continuing their academic activities.

The initiative also aligns with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor, Kate Azuka Omenugha, to promote economic sustainability and development within the university under her 3Vs Agenda.

What The Initiative Offers

According to the Business Ventures Committee, many of the opportunities under the programme are designed to be flexible and manageable for students.

One aspect of the scheme focuses on plastic and waste recycling. Students who participate will collect plastic cans and sachet-water waste until the materials reach 10kg or more, after which they will receive payment.

The university described the recycling component as a practical way for students to earn money while also contributing to environmental cleanliness on campus.

How Students Can Join The Programme

Students interested in participating in the initiative are required to follow the registration process established by the committee.

The process includes:

  • Registering with the Business Ventures Committee
  • Obtaining an official authorisation letter to operate within the campus environment

Registration for the programme is free.

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has officially launched a new digital mobile application designed to manage students’ academic life cycle, marking a major milestone in the institution’s transition from analogue to digital operations.

The development was disclosed in an internal memorandum dated 24th February, 2026, issued by the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) to all Heads of Departments and students.

EducationNGR learnt that the memo, signed by the Director of ICT, Engr. Prof. J. P. Iloh, confirmed that the platform is now live and available for download on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

The mobile application enables students to carry out essential academic and administrative activities seamlessly. Key features include:

Heads of Departments have also been directed to submit approved CCMAS (100–300 level) and BMAS (400 level and above) course lists to ensure smooth profiling and registration on the new system.

  • Not Admitted: At this point, you are not listed. This might mean the list is still rolling out, or your review is still hanging.
  • Pending: Your application is still under review, so no final word yet.

  • Send a text with ACCEPT or REJECT to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number linked to your JAMB profile.

COOU University community and the general public are hereby informed that the deadline for the submission of Post-UTME applications has been extended. Applicants now have until September 30, 2025, to complete and submit their forms.

According to the University, all other requirements for the Post-UTME application remain unchanged and will continue to apply for the 2025/2026 admission exercise.
