Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), formerly Anambra State University (ANSU), is a state-owned multi-campus university located in Anambra State, Nigeria. The institution is one of the leading public universities in South-East Nigeria, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, JUPEB, and professional programmes across sciences, medicine, law, engineering, arts, management, education, and social sciences. COOU is fully recognized by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and operates a digital student portal for admission, registration, and academic services.
The university currently has campuses in Igbariam, Uli, and Awka (Amaku). The current Vice-Chancellor is Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha.
History of the Institution
COOU was established in 2000 by the Anambra State Government under Law No. 13. It began as a two-campus institution using facilities inherited from former state institutions. In 2006, it transitioned into a conventional university structure and became popularly known as Anambra State University (ANSU). Later, the institution was renamed Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in honour of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
Over the years, the university has expanded into a respected academic institution with multiple campuses, professional faculties, growing research output, and modern ICT systems.
