Salem University is a private Christian university located in Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria. It was established in 2007 by the Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT). The university was officially licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria on June 29, 2007, making it the first private university in Kogi State. Salem University is owned and operated by the Gospel Faith Mission International, one of Nigeria’s leading Pentecostal churches. The university is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). The university’s motto is Knowledge, Faith, Impact. The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Chiveyine B. Z. Porbeni, who assumed office on February 1, 2024.
History of the Institution
Salem University was conceived by the Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT) as part of the church’s commitment to educational development in Nigeria. The university was established to provide quality tertiary education grounded in Christian values and ethics. After obtaining its license from the Federal Government on June 29, 2007, the university commenced academic activities shortly thereafter.
The university started with a modest number of faculties and programs and has since expanded significantly. Over the years, Salem University has developed a reputation for academic excellence, moral discipline, and a serene learning environment. The university has continued to invest in infrastructure, faculty development, and research output. Salem University has produced graduates who have excelled in various fields, including medicine, law, engineering, business, and academia. The institution maintains a close relationship with GOFAMINT, which provides spiritual oversight and institutional support.
In 2024, Professor Chiveyine B. Z. Porbeni was appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor, bringing fresh leadership to the university. Under his leadership, Salem University has continued to expand its academic offerings and improve its facilities.

Admission Requirements
UTME (Undergraduate) Admission

A minimum of five (5) O’Level credit passes including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, GCE O’Level, or NABTEB.

A valid JAMB UTME score meeting Salem University’s minimum cut-off mark is required.

Candidates must select Salem University as their first choice institution in JAMB. However, candidates who did not choose Salem University as first choice can apply for a JAMB change of institution form.

Cut-off Mark
The last known JAMB cut-off mark for Salem University is 160 for most programmes. However, due to high competition, candidates with higher scores (180 and above) have a significantly better chance of admission, especially for professional programmes like Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Law, and Engineering.
