Niger Delta University  popularly known as NDU  is a public state university located in Amassoma, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Established in 2000, NDU is one of the leading universities in the Niger Delta region and serves as Bayelsa State’s premier university. The institution offers undergraduate, postgraduate, pre-degree, diploma, and professional programmes across numerous faculties including Medicine, Law, Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing, Sciences, Arts, and Management Sciences. NDU is recognised by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and continues to grow in research, innovation, and academic development.

History of the Institution

Niger Delta University was established in 2000 by the Bayelsa State Government to expand access to university education and promote human capital development in the Niger Delta region. The university was founded during the early years of Bayelsa State after the state’s creation in 1996.

Academic activities commenced shortly after establishment, and the institution steadily expanded from a few pioneer faculties into a multi-disciplinary university. Over the years, NDU has developed colleges in medicine, nursing sciences, pharmacy, engineering, law, and environmental sciences.

Today, the university has become one of the most recognised state universities in Southern Nigeria, attracting students from Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Edo, and across the country.

Admission Requirements

UTME (Undergraduate Admission)

Applicants are usually required to have:

  • Minimum of five (5) O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Acceptable JAMB score.
  • Correct subject combination.
  • Participation in NDU Post-UTME screening.

Direct Entry Admission

Candidates with A’Level, ND, NCE, IJMB, HND or equivalent may apply into 200 Level depending on programme.

Postgraduate Admission

NDU offers PGD, Masters and PhD programmes through the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Pre-Degree Programme

NDU also runs pre-degree programmes for candidates seeking admission into 100 Level.
