The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has extended the application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session, shifting the closing date from 31 January 2026 to 27 February 2026.
The Fund said the extension is aimed at giving prospective applicants additional time to complete and submit their applications, ensuring that no eligible student is excluded due to timing constraints.
Old And New Application Deadlines
NELFUND confirmed the change as follows:

Previous deadline: 31 January 2026

New deadline: 27 February 2026
Applicants are expected to take note of the new cut-off date and ensure their submissions are completed before the revised deadline.
Reason For The Deadline Extension
According to NELFUND, the decision to extend the application window is to accommodate students who may require extra time to finalise their applications. The Fund explained that the move is part of its effort to widen access and prevent eligible candidates from missing out.
EducationNGR also learnt that the extension is intended to improve overall participation in the loan scheme for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, explained the rationale behind the decision, saying:
“This extension reflects our commitment to inclusivity and access. We understand that some applicants may require additional time to complete their submissions, and this decision ensures that every eligible Nigerian student has a fair opportunity to benefit from the Fund.”
What Applicants Should Do
NELFUND advised students who are yet to apply, as well as those who started but did not complete their applications, to use the extended deadline wisely. All required information and documents should be submitted on or before 27 February 2026, as incomplete applications may delay processing.
