FUTD
Federal University of Transportation, Daura – FUTD

The Federal University of Transportation, Daura (FUTD) is a federal university established in 2023 by the Federal Government of Nigeria. It is the first university in Nigeria—and one of the few in Africa—dedicated entirely to transportation studies and related technologies.

The idea for the university was conceived on 15th May 2018 during negotiations for the Lagos–Kano Railway Modernization Project between the Federal Ministry of Transportation and China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC). The goal was to facilitate technology transfer and build local expertise in transportation systems.

The university was established to address the shortage of skilled professionals in Nigeria’s transport sector, particularly in rail, maritime, aviation, and logistics. It also aims to support the massive investments made by the government in transportation infrastructure and position Nigeria as a knowledge hub for transportation in Africa.

Since its take-off, FUTD has focused on engineering, logistics, and transport management programmes, with a strong emphasis on practical training, innovation, and industry relevance.
