Kashim Ibrahim University  popularly known as KIU  is a state government-owned university located in Maiduguri, Borno State, North-East Nigeria. The institution was formerly known as Borno State University (BOSU) before it was officially renamed to Kashim Ibrahim University in 2025 in honour of Sir Kashim Ibrahim and former Governor Kashim Shettima. Official website: KIU Official Website

The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across sciences, arts, education, social sciences, management sciences, and health-related disciplines. KIU is recognised by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and continues to expand in infrastructure, student enrolment, and academic offerings.

History of the Institution

The idea of establishing a state university in Borno State originated during the administration of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and was later actualised by former Governor Kashim Shettima. The institution received official approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2016 and commenced operations as Borno State University (BOSU).

In 2025, the Borno State Government officially renamed the institution to Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU). The renaming became effective on August 4, 2025, and all university documents and communications now bear the KIU identity.

The university was established to expand access to higher education for students in Borno State and the North-East region, especially at a time when admission spaces in federal universities were highly limited.

Wesley University , WUO
Wesley University

Wesley University, Ondo also known as WUO  is a private Christian university located in Ondo City, Ondo State, South-West Nigeria. Granted a licence to operate by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2007, the university was established by the Methodist Church of Nigeria and derives its name from John Wesley (1703 — 1791), the founder of the Methodist Church worldwide. Originally named Wesley University of Science and Technology (WUSTO) at inception, it was later renamed to encompass all academic disciplines. With over 10,000 undergraduates, more than 1,000 postgraduate students, 12 colleges, and over 32 departments, Wesley University has grown into one of the most comprehensive private universities in South-West Nigeria. In November 2025, the university made history by announcing a 50% reduction in tuition fees for most programmes — a landmark decision aimed at easing the financial burden on students and parents. The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Samuel Obeka. The university offers a consistently strike-free academic calendar, making it a highly attractive choice for students who value academic stability.

History of the Institution

The story of Wesley University, Ondo is rooted in the centuries-old legacy of the Methodist Church and its commitment to education in Nigeria. John Wesley (1703 — 1791), his brother Charles Wesley (1707 — 1788), George Whitefield (1714 — 1770), and others, as young men at the University of Oxford, formed a movement called the Holy Club. Through the activities of this movement, there was a religious revival that caused social and national life to improve as people’s consciences became more active in doing what was right according to the Bible. It is this same spirit of intellectual and moral transformation that underpins the founding philosophy of Wesley University.

The university was granted its NUC operational licence in 2007 and began as Wesley University of Science and Technology (WUSTO). In the years since its founding, it has expanded significantly — from a science-focused institution into a comprehensive multi-college university offering programmes across health sciences, law, engineering, agriculture, arts, education, social sciences, environmental design, and pharmacy. The university received NUC approval for new academic programmes that triggered an unprecedented rise in student enrolment, cementing its reputation as a fast-growing institution.

A defining moment in the university’s recent history came on 23rd November 2025, at the 14th Convocation ceremony, when Vice-Chancellor Professor Samuel Obeka announced a 50% reduction in tuition fees for most undergraduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session, excluding Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Law, and select Medical and Allied Health Sciences. This decision was described as being in response to prevailing economic challenges and in line with Wesley University’s commitment to affordable, accessible, and inclusive education. The university has also distinguished itself academically — notably producing 19-year-old first class graduate Miss Ifeoluwa Mercy Adeyemi, who graduated in Microbiology with a CGPA of 4.97 out of 5.0, and producing a total of 38 first class graduates in a single convocation.

FCE Oyo Special
Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo – FCES OYO

Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo  widely known as FCE (Special) Oyo, FCES OYO, or simply FCE Oyo  is a Federal Government-owned College of Education located in Oyo, Oyo State, South-West Nigeria. Established in October 1977, FCE (Special) Oyo is the only College of Special Education in Sub-Saharan West Africa, set up to train teachers and other para-professionals in Special Education for people with special needs. The college has the largest group of students with disabilities that can be found in any higher institution in Nigeria, and the largest concentration of specialised teaching and training facilities for teachers with disabilities in the country. The college is funded and managed by the Federal Government through the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), and is fully accredited to award the National Certificate of Education (NCE). It also offers full Bachelor’s Degree programmes in affiliation with the University of Ibadan (UI) and Sandwich Degree programmes through the Lagos State University (LASU). The current Provost is Dr. Ademola Salami. FCE (Special) Oyo’s motto is Light Through Learning.

History of the Institution

The college took off as the Federal Advanced Teachers College of Special Education on 5th October, 1977. This was the culmination of years of planning, dating back to October 1974, when the then Head of State declared the Government’s intention to establish a National Special Education Teachers’ College.

During its 40th anniversary celebration, the college gave a special recognition award to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whose military administration brought about the upgrading of the institution from the Federal Advanced Teachers College to a College of Education with the mandate to award the National Certificate of Education (NCE) in 1977.

FCE (Special) Oyo holds the unique distinction of being the only college of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa entirely devoted to Special Education. Supported by the Centre for Educational Technology (CET) and the Directorate of Sign Language Interpreting, the college offers comprehensive NCE programmes, full-time Bachelor’s Degrees in affiliation with the University of Ibadan (UI), and flexible Sandwich Degree programmes.

According to a UNDP/UNESCO 1996 report (NIR/87/008), the institution has one of the best qualified staff in special education, not only in Nigeria but also in the whole of Africa.

The College, being the only one of its kind in the country, has an admission policy that takes the entire nation as its catchment area — allowing a wider mix in student population that cannot be found in other Colleges of Education. The college operates multiple specialised directorates including the Directorate of Integrated and Dual Programmes for Academic, Non-Formal and Community Empowerment (DIDPANC), the Directorate of Sign Language Interpreting, and the Directorate of Research and Publication.

Licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria in November 2009, Wellspring University was founded by the Management Science Centre, a professional training and educational consulting firm established in 1983. The university was established on Christian beliefs and principles. Wellspring University is a future-forward educational institution responding to Africa’s needs by raising solution providers in the areas of health, business, and technology, driven by a strategic direction centred around learning delivery, innovation, and community. The university is fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and was rated third among the second-generation private universities in 2019 according to the NUC Webometric Ranking. Based on rankings such as EduRank, Wellspring University is ranked about 79th in Nigeria. The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Isaac Rotimi Ajayi, FNIP, and the Chancellor is Pastor Ituah Ighodalo.

History of the Institution

In 1983, a group of academics and professionals came together in Lagos to establish the Management Science Centre. Over the years, the Centre showed its dedication to education by coaching numerous students at the University of Lagos and partnering with various institutions to offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In 2006, after two decades of fruitful collaborations, the centre decided to take a significant leap by working towards establishing its own university. This vision came to fruition in November 2009 when Wellspring University was granted a provisional licence, marking a new chapter in Nigerian private university education.

Since its inception, Wellspring University has expanded impressively. Starting with just seven undergraduate courses in two colleges, it now offers 18 undergraduate courses across three colleges and a range of postgraduate courses in its School of Postgraduate Studies.

The university had its first combined convocation ceremony on 22–25 March 2017, with Amb. Daniel C. Isimoya as Pro-Chancellor, Professor F.E Obi Ikediugwu as Vice-Chancellor, and Barr. (Mrs.) Edith Emmamezi Efam as Registrar. The Chancellor, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, was conferred with a Doctor of Letters degree at the university. The second combined convocation took place in June 2021, where three distinguished Nigerians received honorary doctorate degrees. The 13th Convocation was recently held, celebrating academic excellence across all colleges. Wellspring University launched the Ubemilin Centre for Tomorrow — an innovation hub whose name is coined from the local Benin dialect meaning to nurture — as its intervention vehicle to nurture, manage, and promote innovative thinking and initiatives, birthing social impact enterprises, entrepreneurial ideas, and advocacy beyond the classroom.
