Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit  popularly known as AKSCOE  is a state government-owned College of Education located in Afaha Nsit, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria. The institution was established on 10 January 1991 as the first tertiary institution created by the Akwa Ibom State Government following the creation of the state in 1987.

The college was founded primarily to train qualified teachers and middle-level educational manpower in sciences, arts, vocational studies, social sciences, and technology-oriented disciplines. Since inception, AKSCOE has remained one of the major teacher-training institutions in Akwa Ibom State and the Niger Delta region.

AKSCOE offers Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes, affiliated degree programmes, and professional educational training programmes. The institution is affiliated with the University of Uyo for its degree programmes.

History of the Institution

The establishment of Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit was part of the educational development plans initiated shortly after the creation of Akwa Ibom State. The state government recognized the need for a science-based teacher-training institution that would help provide skilled manpower for schools and educational development across the state.

On 10 January 1991, the institution officially commenced operations using the facilities of the former Teachers Training College, Afaha Nsit. The college started academic activities with approximately 179 students and over 300 staff members.

A Governing Council chaired by Professor Eno L. Inanga of the University of Ibadan was inaugurated shortly after establishment to oversee the administration and growth of the institution. The college conducted its first matriculation ceremony in March 1991.

Over the years, AKSCOE expanded from a science-focused college into a broader institution offering programmes in humanities, languages, business education, vocational studies, technical education, and affiliated university degree programmes. The college has continued to develop academic infrastructure, staff capacity, and digital student services.
