Augustine University, popularly known as AUI, is a private Catholic university located in Ilara-Epe. The university was established by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos and officially licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on 5 March 2015. Academic activities commenced later in 2015 with the admission of pioneer students. History of Augustine University

Augustine University was founded by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos under the vision of His Eminence, Anthony Olubunmi Okogie, former Archbishop of Lagos. The university was created to provide quality higher education based on Catholic values, academic excellence, discipline, leadership, and entrepreneurship.

The institution received its operating licence from the National Universities Commission (NUC) on 5 March 2015 and was formally inaugurated on 23 October 2015. Academic activities began with the admission of pioneer 100-level students on 30 November 2015, while the maiden matriculation ceremony took place on 1 April 2016.

Augustine University has continued to expand its programmes, facilities, and research capabilities, positioning itself as one of the growing private universities in Nigeria.

Augustine University 8th Convocation Ceremony, Schedule for 2026

Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos State, will hold its 8th convocation ceremony on Thursday, 29 October 2026. The event will feature the award of first degrees and presentation of prizes to graduating students. The main ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the University Convocation Hall.

The university’s convocation week activities will run from Tuesday, 27 October, to Thursday, 29 October 2026. The programme will begin with a press conference at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. On Wednesday, 28 October, graduating students are expected to arrive at 7:00 a.m., followed by a Thanksgiving Mass at 2:00 p.m., rehearsal at 5:00 p.m. and Gala Night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The main convocation ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, 29 October, at the University Convocation Hall. The programme includes the award of first degrees and presentation of prizes, with departure scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Members of the public have been invited to join the university community in celebrating the graduating students and their academic achievements.

Most Rev. Dr Matthew Hassan Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto and Founder of the Kukah Centre, will deliver the convocation lecture titled “The Pursuit of Happiness in a World of Moral Relativism.” The lecture forms part of the activities marking Augustine University’s 8th convocation ceremony.
