History of the Institution
The Federal University of Agriculture, Bassam-Biri, Bayelsa (FUAB) is a federal government-owned university established in 2023 as part of a national initiative to expand access to higher education and strengthen agricultural development in Nigeria.
The university is located in Bassambiri in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, within the Opu-Nembe Kingdom in the Niger Delta region. It was created to support research, teaching, and innovation in agriculture, environmental sciences, and related disciplines that are relevant to the ecological and economic needs of the Niger Delta.
FUAB was designed as a hands-on, research-driven agricultural university that integrates classroom learning with practical fieldwork, teaching farms, and industry collaboration.
