BUK Expels 60 Students Over Examination Misconduct

Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has announced the expulsion of 60 students from various departments following allegations of examination misconduct. The decision was taken by the University Senate after reviewing reports and recommendations from the relevant academic and disciplinary committees.

EducationNGR also learnt that the action followed due process as outlined in the university’s regulations.

Decision of the University Senate

The expulsion was approved at the 431st Senate meeting, held on 7 January 2026. According to the university, the affected students were found culpable of different forms of examination malpractice. Based on the findings submitted to the Senate, expulsion was recommended as the appropriate sanction under existing rules.

The Senate adopted the recommendations in full, noting that the offences contravened established academic standards and disciplinary expectations of the institution.

Regulations Applied by the University

BUK stated that the decision was guided by the relevant provisions of its regulations, including:

  • Category 20.17 (Ai–xiii) of the General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR)

  • Section 3.4.2 (Ai–xi) of the General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies (GRGPS)

These provisions outline sanctions for examination misconduct across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

List of Affected Students

The university confirmed that the names of the expelled students have been documented internally and communicated through official channels. Affected students are advised to refer to university notices for details specific to their cases.

BUK reiterated its commitment to maintaining academic integrity and warned that examination malpractice will continue to attract severe penalties in line with university regulations.
