Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi popularly known as WUFPBK is a Federal Government-owned polytechnic located in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Nigeria. Established in 1976 as Sokoto State College of Technology and later federalized in 2007, the institution is one of the prominent polytechnics in Northern Nigeria, offering National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes across engineering, science, environmental, and management disciplines.
The Polytechnic is fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and is committed to producing technically skilled and innovative graduates who contribute to national development.
History of the Institution
Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic traces its origin to 1976, when it was established as Sokoto State College of Technology, commencing academic activities in 1977 at a temporary site in Farfaru, Sokoto State.
In 1980, the institution became the Polytechnic of Sokoto State, and later relocated permanently to Birnin Kebbi. With the creation of Kebbi State in 1991, it was renamed The Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi.
In 2002, the institution was renamed Waziri Umaru Polytechnic in honour of a respected traditional ruler, and subsequently taken over by the Federal Government in 2007, becoming its present status.
Today, the polytechnic operates multiple schools and departments with over 50 accredited programmes, contributing significantly to technical education and manpower development in Nigeria.
