The lecture will be delivered by Engr. Prof. Tobinson Alasin Briggs, a Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt.

Prof. Briggs holds:

  • A B.Eng and M.Eng from the University of Port Harcourt

  • A Postgraduate Certificate from Newcastle University

  • A Ph.D from University of Nigeria, Nsukka

He is also a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and the International Institute of Systems Engineering (MIISE).

UNIPORT Schedules 47th Matriculation Ceremony For 2025/2026 Intake

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has announced the date and programme for its 47th Matriculation Ceremony, marking the formal induction of first-year students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

A memorandum from the Director of Academic Affairs, Mr. Goodnews Ijah, issued on behalf of the Registrar, confirmed the ceremony details.

Matriculation Date, Venue And Time

  • Date: Tuesday, 10th February, 2026

  • Time: 10:00 a.m.

  • Venue: New Convocation Arena, University Park, University of Port Harcourt

Seating Time And Ceremony Protocol

All matriculating students are required to be seated by 8:30 a.m. to allow for orderly proceedings.

The programme includes the traditional academic procession by members of the University Senate, and students must be in position before the procession begins.

Photography Rule

The University has banned photography inside the New Convocation Arena during the ceremony. Students and guests are advised to comply for the duration of the event.

Requirements For Matriculating Students

UNIPORT listed the following steps for students to complete before and after the matriculation ceremony:

  1. Print and Return the Matriculation Pledge

    • Each student must print a copy of the Matriculation Pledge online.

    • After taking the official oath at the Arena, the pledge will be signed and returned to the relevant College Secretary or Faculty Officer on the same day.

  2. Collect Academic Gowns (Full-Time Students)

    • Full-time students can collect academic gowns from their Faculty or College from Thursday, 29th January, 2026, using their receipt of school charges.

    • Students are not required to make any additional payments for documents or services at Faculty level.

  3. Collect and Return Outfits (Part-Time Students)

    • Part-time students are to contact the College Secretary at the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) for the collection and return of academic outfits.

  4. Return Gowns By Deadline

    • All academic gowns must be returned to the Faculty or College by Friday, 20th February, 2026 to avoid penalties or complications.

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), through its Institute of International Trade and Development (IITD), has officially announced the commencement of applications for its 2025/2026 graduate programmes. Admission Requirements

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD):
Applicants must hold a good honours degree (minimum of Third Class) from a recognised university in Economics, Political Science, Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, History, Geography, Law, or related fields. HND holders with at least Upper Credit are also eligible.

Master of Science (M.Sc) in International Trade and Development:
Candidates must possess a Second Class Honours degree in Economics, Political Science, Finance, Accounting, Law, Management, or related disciplines. Professionals with at least five years of experience in trade-related fields and a minimum CGPA of 2.50 may also apply.

M.Sc in Customs Administration, Ports Management, and Shipping:
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Management Sciences, or selected Arts disciplines (e.g., History, Law, or International Relations) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50. Those with relevant experience in Customs, Immigration, or the Nigerian Ports Authority may also be considered. Third Class or HND holders with Upper Credit must possess a PGD in a related area.

Ph.D in Trade and Development Finance:
Applicants must hold an M.Sc in International Trade and Development from IITD with a minimum CGPA of 3.50. Candidates with M.Sc degrees in Economics, Marketing, Accounting, International Finance, Management, or related fields with the same CGPA are also eligible.

Programme Duration

  • PGD and M.Sc: 12 calendar months
  • Ph.D: Minimum 24 months and maximum 60 months

UNIPORT Postgraduate General Admission Requirements

O’Level Requirements

Every applicant must have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics.
Candidates who obtained their O’Level certificates before 2012 and do not have a credit in Mathematics may still apply for programmes in:

  • Faculty of Humanities
  • Faculty of Education
  • Faculty of Social Sciences (except the Department of Economics)

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programmes

Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with Second Class Honours or Third Class.
HND holders need a minimum of Upper Credit.

For the Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry (PGDC), applicants with a Third Class are not eligible.

Master’s Degree Programmes

Candidates must hold at least a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree in a relevant course from UNIPORT or any recognised university.

For the Master’s in Education, candidates with degrees in other disciplines must hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) with Upper Credit.
Those applying for the MBA should have a strong quantitative background.
Holders of a PGD must have a CGPA of 3.50 or above to qualify for the Master’s level.

Ph.D. Programmes

Ph.D. applicants must have a Master’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 or its equivalent. Admission is based on interview performance and includes coursework and a qualifying examination.

MD/MS Programmes

  • Candidates must be graduates of Medicine (MBBS) from UNIPORT for at least five years or confirmed academic staff of the university.
  • In addition, candidates must hold a recognised fellowship qualification or an M.Sc. Degree in a related area.

Duration of UNIPORT Postgraduate Programmes

  • PGDE: Full-time, 12–24 months; Sandwich, two long vacations of 8 weeks each.
  • MBA: Full-time, 24–36 months; Part-time, 36–48 months.
  • MD/MS: Minimum of 24 months.
  • Ph.D.: Full-time, 24–60 months; Part-time, 36–84 months.
  • DBA: Full-time, 3–5 years; Part-time, 5–7 years.

How to Apply for UNIPORT Postgraduate Admission

Applicants should pay a ₦15,000 application fee at any of these banks:
U&C Microfinance Bank, UBA, Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, EcoBank, First Bank, or Sterling Bank.

A ₦15,000 fee is also required for the Prospectus, payable to U&C Microfinance Bank Ltd, Choba (Account Number: 1100236739).

After payment, candidates can download the application form via the UNIPORT School of Graduate Studies portal.
Please note that payment of the form fee does not guarantee admission and is non-refundable.

The University of Port Harcourt has made public its admission list for the 2025–2026 academic year. This is the long-awaited update for applicants eager to know their fate. If you sent in an application, your name may now be on the list.

How to Check UNIPORT Admission List

Applicants will need to confirm their admission status online. The only route at this time is the JAMB CAPS portal.

  • Go to the JAMB EFacility portal
  • Log in using your JAMB username and password
  • Scroll and click Check Admission Status
  • Select Access my CAPS
  • Tap on Admission Status to see if UNIPORT has offered you a place

Some use the CAPS on phones and only see a welcome screen. To fix this, use Chrome browser, open the menu, and select “Request desktop site.” That way, the full page loads.

Responses You May See

The portal gives different replies, each with its own meaning.

  • Admission Offered: Big congratulations, JAMB has approved your entry. You may now accept or reject it on the portal.
  • Admission in Progress (AIP): Your school has pushed your name forward. It is still being checked by the Head of School, then JAMB.
  • Recommended: UNIPORT has backed you, but JAMB is still making the final checks.
  • Not Admitted: Sadly, you have not been picked yet. This could be because the school has not put out its full list or your file is still waiting for review.
  • Pending: Your file is in review, no final word yet.

What Next After Admission

If you see “Admission Offered,” then you need to accept or reject it. Send a simple text:

  • ACCEPT or REJECT to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number linked to your JAMB profile.

Once you accept, you should print your JAMB admission letter. Keep it safe, you will need it.

University of Port Harcourt has fixed the Post UTME cut-off mark for 2025/2026 admission at 120. All candidates should take note of this decision by the Committee of Provost and Deans. Kindly read on for details.

So the wait is over, and the University of Port Harcourt has finally spoken. At its emergency meeting on Thursday, 28th August, 2025, the Committee of Provost and Deans sat, looked at the numbers, and came to a decision that matters to every candidate hoping to gain admission this year.

After weighing the results of the 2025/2026 Post UTME, they agreed on a benchmark. The minimum cut-off mark for this admission round is set at 120. That is the line. If you are above it, you are in the running. If not, then maybe next time.

  • Anyone with a score 120 and above in the Post UTME stands a chance for admission.
