NOUN Releases Approved Academic Calendar for 2026 First Quarter

The Office of the Registrar (Academic Registry) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has officially released the approved academic calendar for the first quarter of 2026. Students and prospective applicants are advised to take note of the following key dates and deadlines.

Application for Admissions
The portal is open from January 1st to December 31st, 2026, for the entire academic year.

Course and Examination Registration
Registration for the 1st Semester 2026 Academic Session is currently underway. It began on Monday, January 5th and is set to conclude on Sunday, March 22nd, 2026.

Project Submissions and Defences

  • 2025_1 Virtual Defence/Moderation: Completion scheduled between January 5th and January 30th, 2026.

  • Project Submission (2025_2): The PAS portal for 2025_2 Projects and Seminar Courses opened on January 5th and will remain open for initial submissions until Saturday, February 7th, 2026.

  • Continuous Project Submission: A second window for continuous submission of 2025_2 projects opens on Saturday, March 14th, 2026.

  • 2025_2 Virtual Defence:

    • First Batch: February 9th – February 28th, 2026

    • Second Batch: Begins Saturday, March 14th, 2026

Academic and Facilitation Schedule

  • Course Facilitation: Online facilitation for the new semester begins on Monday, February 2nd, and runs for 8 weeks, ending on Sunday, April 5th, 2026.

  • Tutor-Marked Assignments (TMAs):

    • 1st TMA: Monday, March 2nd – Sunday, March 15th, 2026

    • 2nd TMA: Monday, March 16th – Sunday, March 29th, 2026

Important Institutional Dates

  • Operational & Policy Meetings: February 24th and 25th, 2026

  • Inaugural Lecture & Honorary Degree Meetings: Thursday, February 26th, 2026

Student Notice
Students are strongly encouraged to complete their course registrations before March 22nd to avoid being locked out of the 1st Semester examinations.

NOUN Announces 2025 Matriculation Ceremony Date

The Matriculation Ceremony for the 2025_2 academic semester has been announced by the management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). This event marks the official start of academic life for all newly admitted students and welcomes them into the university’s academic community.

Date and Time for the NOUN Matriculation Ceremony

The NOUN Matriculation Ceremony will hold on Thursday, 16th October 2025, across all study centres in Nigeria.

This year’s ceremony will be conducted virtually, and a link will be shared with all study centres and matriculating students before the event. Students will receive details about the official web link and joining instructions in due course.

Orientation Programme Before Matriculation

Before the main ceremony, each study centre will organise an orientation programme for new students. This session introduces learners to the university’s academic structure, online learning platforms, and available support services.

The Orientation Exercise for newly admitted students has been announced by the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). This event marks the beginning of academic life for fresh students and helps them understand how to manage their studies effectively.

Date and Format of the NOUN Orientation Exercise

The NOUN Orientation Exercise will hold on Wednesday, 15th October 2025, across all study centres. Every newly admitted student is encouraged to attend.

The event will provide clear guidance on the university’s academic and administrative systems, ensuring new students start their studies with confidence.

Purpose of the Orientation Exercise

Meet NOUN New VC – Professor Uduma O. Uduma

National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Appoints Professor Uduma O. Uduma as Vice-Chancellor

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has announced the appointment of Professor Uduma Oji Uduma as its new Vice-Chancellor. His appointment takes effect on 11 February 2026, following the completion of the current Vice-Chancellor’s tenure.

The decision came after the Governing Council reviewed and approved the recommendation of the Board. This marks another step in the University’s effort to strengthen academic leadership and sustain its growth.

 

 

About Professor Uduma O. Uduma

Professor Uduma Oji Uduma is a Professor of Philosophy and Logic and also a Barrister-at-Law.
Born on 30 January 1966, he earned his first degree from the University of Calabar, where he graduated as the best student in his faculty. He later obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philosophy from the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007.

Academic and Administrative Career

Throughout his academic journey, Professor Uduma has held several key roles, including Head of Department, Director of General Studies, Director of Academic Planning, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at NOUN.

He also served as Study Centre Director at Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, where student enrolment rose from 496 to over 2,000 under his leadership. His work has been widely recognised for its academic rigour and impact, and he maintains a strong research presence, reflected in his visibility on Google Scholar.
