The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), has announced its 68th Inaugural Lecture, scheduled to focus on the growing challenges of insect pests and their impact on agricultural productivity.

The lecture is being organised under the authority of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, on behalf of the University Senate and Management, and is open to members of the university community and the general public.

The inaugural lecture will examine the role of insect pests in crop losses and the broader implications for food security in modern agriculture.

The topic of the lecture is Tiny Insect Pests and Huge Crop Losses: Dilemma of an Agricultural Entomologist, reflecting ongoing concerns about sustainable farming and effective pest management strategies.

Lecturer And Academic Profile

The lecture will be delivered by Prof. Elechi Franca Asawalam, a Professor of Agricultural Entomology in the Department of Plant Health Management, College of Crop and Soil Sciences.

Prof. Asawalam holds a B.Sc in Agriculture from the University of Ibadan, an M.Sc from the same institution, and a Ph.D from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. She is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Society for Plant Protection.

The management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), has released full details on the Acceptance Fee Payment and Registration procedures for all newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Following the release of the admission list, successful candidates are advised to complete their acceptance fee payment and registration on time to secure their admission into the university’s various programmes.

MOUAU Acceptance Fee and Registration Steps

The process is straightforward and must be completed both physically and online. Below is a breakdown of each step.

Step 1: Departmental Clearance

New students should begin by visiting their respective departments with all original academic credentials for verification. Once cleared, they will receive a Departmental Clearance Form.

Step 2: Uploading Clearance on the University Portal

1. Visit the MOUAU Portal.
2. Go to the Quick Link section and find the Upload Your Departmental Clearance Form.
3. Attach your clearance form and submit.
4. The university portal will confirm your clearance within 24 hours, after which you can proceed to the next stage.

Step 3: Accessing the Admission Section

1. Go back to the MOUAU Portal.
2. Click on the Admission tab and choose Admission Process.
3. Enter your JAMB registration number to print your admission letter.
4. Accept your admission and print both your Admission Letter and Pledge Form.

Step 4: Paying the Developmental Levy

All newly admitted students must pay a developmental levy of ₦80,000.

• Click the Proceed button on your portal dashboard to generate a Remita payment.
• Payment can be made online (ATM or Remita Checkout) or at any bank.
• Once payment is made, confirm it using the Query Remita Payment link.

Step 5: Completing Online Registration

After your developmental levy payment has been confirmed:

1. Return to the Online Registration Page.
2. Upload your clearance form again to validate your payment.
3. Once cleared, generate a Remita for accommodation and school fees (repeat validation after each payment).
4. Obtain your SUG card from the Students’ Union Secretariat.
5. Complete your online biodata and course registration on the portal.
6. Create and submit your student file at your department.

Payment Reminders

• All payments must be made strictly through the official university website.
• Each payment (acceptance, developmental levy, school fees, and accommodation) must be validated before proceeding.
• Students are strongly advised not to make payments to any individual or unauthorised account.
