LASU Sandwich Degree Courses

LASU offers B.Sc (Ed), B.A (Ed), and B.Ed Sandwich Degree Programmes (Four (4) and Five (5) Years) in the following disciplines:

LASU Sandwich Degree Programmes Admission Requirements

General Basic Requirements

To be eligible, applicants must have any of the following:

  • Five (5) O’Level credits or NABTEB relevant to the chosen course of study at not more than two (2) sittings, plus two (2) ‘A’ Level passes or NCE Merit Passes in relevant areas.
  • A University/Polytechnic two (2) year Diploma Certificate in the relevant field with at least Merit/Lower Credit.
  • Credit passes in English Language and Mathematics are compulsory for all courses.

Specific Subject Area Requirements

  • English Major: Credits in Literature in English and English Language at O’Level or equivalent.
  • Economics Major: Credits in English Language, Mathematics, and Economics.
  • Human Kinetics, Sports and Health Education: Credits in English Language, Mathematics, and other subjects such as Agricultural Science, Biology, or Physical & Health Science.
  • Political Science Major: At least a credit pass in English Language, Mathematics, and Government.
  • Health Education: Credits in English Language, Mathematics, and other subjects from Agricultural Science, Biology, or Health Science.
    • Holders of Staff Registered Nurse and Midwifery Certificates, Environmental Health Diploma from School of Health Technology, plus five (5) O’Level credits (including English Language and Mathematics) are also eligible.
  • Mathematics and Science Major: Credits in Mathematics, English Language, and Physics are compulsory.

Other Acceptable Requirements

  • ICAN (Part II) and CTS (Part II) are acceptable for Economics.
  • Candidates with certificates from recognised Arabic institutions who may not have written Arabic at SSCE/GCE O’Level or NABTEB will be considered, provided they meet other entry requirements.
    • NCE (Arabic) at Merit Level is also acceptable.
  • LASU accepts any other Arts/Social Sciences subject in place of Yoruba Language.
  • For Human Kinetics, Sports and Health Education, LASU also accepts:
    • Diploma in Health Education, Environmental Health, Physical Education, Social Work, Health Administration
    • Certificate in Coaching, Advanced Diploma in Sports (from the Nigerian Institute for Sports)
    • With at least an overall Merit grade, plus five (5) O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics.

LASU Sandwich Degree Programmes Duration

  • Four (4) Year Degree Programme: For candidates with NCE/ND Merit/Lower Credit and above.
  • Five (5) Year Degree Programme: For candidates with WASC/SSCE, NABTEB, and NCE who do not meet the requirements for the four-year programme.

CELPE-Bras Training Programme For Scholarship In Brazil

The Government of Brazil offers scholarships in various disciplines to hundreds of Nigerian students each academic session. To qualify for these scholarships, students must pass the CELPE-Bras (Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese Language for Foreigners) examination.

This programme is designed to prepare candidates for both undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships in Brazil.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have passed WAEC/SSCE with at least five (5) credits
  • Be between the ages of 17 and 23 years for undergraduate scholarships
  • Hold at least a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) for postgraduate scholarships

Programme Duration

The training runs for a period of six (6) months.

Diploma In Portuguese And Brazilian Studies

The Diploma qualifies candidates for admission into the degree programme in Portuguese/English at Lagos State University.

Admission Requirements

  • A minimum of four (4) credits including English Language in GCE O-Level or its equivalent at not more than two (2) sittings
  • Three (3) credits at one (1) sitting plus five (5) years work experience in a corporate body or government establishment
  • Mature candidates above 35 years of age with three (3) credits at one (1) sitting

Programme Duration

The course runs on a part-time basis for four (4) semesters, equivalent to two (2) academic sessions.

Certificate In Portuguese And Brazilian Studies

This course is designed for those intending to travel to Lusophone countries for study, trade, news coverage, or tourism. The certificate also qualifies candidates for admission into the Diploma in Portuguese programme at LASU.

Admission Requirements

  • WASC or GCE O-Level (or its equivalent) with credits in three (3) subjects, including English, at not more than two (2) sittings
  • Alternatively, WASC or GCE O-Level (or its equivalent) with three (3) credits at one (1) sitting plus five (5) years work experience in a corporate body or government establishment

Programme Duration

This is a two-module, six-month part-time programme. Each module lasts for three (3) months.

Proficiency Certificate In Yoruba For Non-Native Speakers

This certificate course is designed to train and equip candidates with knowledge of Yoruba language, literature, culture, and communication techniques. It particularly targets Brazilians and other international learners, while also accommodating Nigerians.

Admission Requirements

  • Foreigners with at least a secondary school certificate or its equivalent
  • Nigerian candidates with a minimum of three (3) credits in WAEC, NECO, or equivalent
  • Graduates of higher institutions in any discipline
  • Mature candidates above 35 years of age, or those with at least ten (10) years of relevant professional experience, may also be considered

Note: A pass in Yoruba is not compulsory.

Programme Duration

The course runs on a full-time basis for eight (8) weeks.

Lagos State University has released its 2025/2026 academic calendar. The schedule covers all key dates for registration, lectures, exams, and breaks. Students are advised to note the details.

The Lagos State University has lifted the curtain on its academic calendar for the new session. For both freshers and those already familiar with campus life, the dates are now set in black and white. Timelines are clear, holidays are marked, and exam weeks sit there like hurdles waiting to be crossed

This calendar is not just paper, it is the map that guides the year. A slip here or a missed date there can make the difference between calm waters and rough tides.

First Semester in the LASU Academic Calendar

The first semester is stretched out with clear stages for students to follow.

  • 15 September – 3 October 2025: Registration for new students, lasting three weeks.
  • 6 October – 19 December 2025: Returning students resume, register, and join lectures. Eleven weeks of classes in total.
  • 22 December 2025 – 2 January 2026: End-of-year break, two weeks to breathe.
  • 5 – 9 January 2026: Revision and late registration. Latecomers will pay ₦5,000 for the delay.
  • 12 January – 6 February 2026: Examinations run for four weeks.
  • 9 – 20 February 2026: Grading and uploading of results.
  • 23 – 27 February 2026: Departments and Faculties tidy up, corrections are made, ICT processes results, and Senate sits to give final approval.

At the close of the first semester, new students will have spent 24 weeks in total, while returning students will have 21 weeks under their belt.

Second Semester in the LASU Academic Calendar

The second semester rolls forward without much pause, and the pattern is just as firm.

  • 2 March – 22 May 2026: Resumption, registration, and lectures for both new and returning students, lasting 12 weeks.
  • 25 May – 5 June 2026: Examinations across all levels.
  • 8 – 19 June 2026: Results graded and uploaded.
  • 22 – 26 June 2026: Departmental and Faculty boards handle corrections, ICT runs final processing.
  • 29 June – 3 July 2026: Results are collated and Senate meets to approve them.
  • 6 July 2026: The end-of-session break begins.

The second semester holds 20 weeks in total.

Breaks and Transition to a New Session

Students will enjoy a sessional break from 6 July to 2 October 2026, giving a full three months away from classes. Then, on 6 October 2026, the curtain rises on the 2026/2027 academic year.
