WAEC Releases 2025 Second Series WASSCE Results for Private Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates.

In a statement issued by its Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, WAEC reported that overall performance declined by 11.47 percentage points compared to 2024.

Out of 65,752 candidates who sat for the examination, 27,727 (42.17%) obtained credit passes in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This represents a drop from 53.64% recorded in 2024 and is slightly below the 44.29% achieved in 2023. WAEC noted that private candidates’ results should not be directly compared with those of school candidates, as they sit outside the formal school system.

A broader performance measure showed that 33,989 candidates (51.69%) secured at least five credit passes, with or without English Language and Mathematics.

A total of 69,604 candidates registered for the examination, reflecting a 1.8% increase over 2024. Of that number, 65,752 candidates sat the examination across 370 centres nationwide.

WAEC stated that 61,943 candidates (94.21%) have had their results fully processed and released. However, 3,809 candidates (5.79%) still have some subjects being processed due to errors linked to them, and processing is ongoing.

The Council also withheld the results of 1,899 candidates (2.89%) over alleged examination malpractice. Investigations are ongoing, and affected candidates will be notified once decisions are concluded.

In terms of gender distribution, 32,005 candidates (48.68%) were male, while 33,747 (51.32%) were female. Among those who obtained five credits including English Language and Mathematics, 13,416 were male and 14,311 were female.

WAEC advised candidates to check their results online via the WAEC Direct result checker, where they are required to enter their examination number, select the year (2025), choose “PRIVATE CANDIDATES,” input their PIN and serial number, and submit to view their results. Candidates can access digital certificates online and request hard copies through the certificate portal.
