Admission Process and Requirements

Applicants for ND full-time programmes must apply through JAMB CAPS. A minimum score of 100 points in the 2025/2026 JAMB UTME is required. Candidates who selected another polytechnic but wish to transfer to Dorben Polytechnic can request a change of institution through the JAMB Portal.

Once admitted, candidates must accept the offer on JAMB CAPS, print the admission letter, and present it at the Dorben Polytechnic Admission Office along Garam-Bwari Road for verification.

HND candidates below 30 years of age admitted on a full-time basis will be eligible for NYSC mobilisation after graduation.

General Admission Requirements

For National Diploma (ND):

  • Five O’Level credits including English Language and Mathematics
  • Minimum of 100 JAMB UTME points (ND full-time only)

For Higher National Diploma (HND):

  • National Diploma in a related field with at least a Lower Credit from a recognised polytechnic
  • Five O’Level credits including English and Mathematics
  • One-year industrial training experience

The management has approved a 20% tuition scholarship for:

  • Military and paramilitary personnel recommended by their offices
  • Female students enrolled in Science and Engineering programmes

Application Process for UNN Shopping/Change of Course

Eligible candidates should follow the steps below to complete their application.

  1. Visit the UNN Portal.
  2. Log in with your JAMB Registration Number to generate and download a payment invoice containing a Remita number.
  3. Pay the ₦10,000 Advert/Shopping processing fee at any commercial bank. Ensure the Invoice Number is entered correctly at the bank.
  4. Obtain a confirmation slip containing your Confirmation Number and Invoice Number.
  5. Return to the portal to complete the Shopping/Change of Course form using your JAMB and invoice numbers.

Application opens on Monday, 20th October 2025 and closes on Friday, 24th October 2025.

Candidates must meet the university’s minimum and departmental entry requirements for their selected courses and must have taken the correct UTME subjects during the 2024/2025 JAMB and Post-UTME.

Candidates admitted through this process will not be permitted to register for any other course during the 2025/2026 academic year.

Master’s Degree (M.Sc. and MBA)

UNIPORT Postgraduate Admission Form 2025/2026 Released

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the Postgraduate Admission into its various graduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session. This guide helps students understand the available programmes, admission requirements, duration, and how to complete the application process.

 

 

UNIPORT Postgraduate General Admission Requirements

O’Level Requirements

Every applicant must have credit passes in English Language and Mathematics.
Candidates who obtained their O’Level certificates before 2012 and do not have a credit in Mathematics may still apply for programmes in:

  • Faculty of Humanities
  • Faculty of Education
  • Faculty of Social Sciences (except the Department of Economics)

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programmes

Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with Second Class Honours or Third Class.
HND holders need a minimum of Upper Credit.

For the Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry (PGDC), applicants with a Third Class are not eligible.

Master’s Degree Programmes

Candidates must hold at least a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree in a relevant course from UNIPORT or any recognised university.

For the Master’s in Education, candidates with degrees in other disciplines must hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) with Upper Credit.
Those applying for the MBA should have a strong quantitative background.
Holders of a PGD must have a CGPA of 3.50 or above to qualify for the Master’s level.

Ph.D. Programmes

Ph.D. applicants must have a Master’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 or its equivalent. Admission is based on interview performance and includes coursework and a qualifying examination.

MD/MS Programmes

  • Candidates must be graduates of Medicine (MBBS) from UNIPORT for at least five years or confirmed academic staff of the university.
  • In addition, candidates must hold a recognised fellowship qualification or an M.Sc. Degree in a related area.

Duration of UNIPORT Postgraduate Programmes

  • PGDE: Full-time, 12–24 months; Sandwich, two long vacations of 8 weeks each.
  • MBA: Full-time, 24–36 months; Part-time, 36–48 months.
  • MD/MS: Minimum of 24 months.
  • Ph.D.: Full-time, 24–60 months; Part-time, 36–84 months.
  • DBA: Full-time, 3–5 years; Part-time, 5–7 years.

How to Apply for UNIPORT Postgraduate Admission

Applicants should pay a ₦15,000 application fee at any of these banks:
U&C Microfinance Bank, UBA, Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, EcoBank, First Bank, or Sterling Bank.

₦15,000 fee is also required for the Prospectus, payable to U&C Microfinance Bank Ltd, Choba (Account Number: 1100236739).

After payment, candidates can download the application form via the UNIPORT School of Graduate Studies portal.
Please note that payment of the form fee does not guarantee admission and is non-refundable.

Required Documents for Submission

Attach two copies each of the following:

  1. Degree or Postgraduate Diploma Certificate
  2. NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate
  3. O’Level Certificate
  4. Birth Certificate or Age Declaration
  5. Marriage Certificate or Change of Name (if applicable)
  6. Local Government Identification Letter
  7. Receipts of payment

Submit completed forms and attachments to the Documentation Unit of the School of Graduate Studies.
